This may have been posted before and I just missed it but I see Tebow getting way more love from the media than VY ever got. I may be biased but I think Vince was a better college QB than Tebow. Maybe it was because Vince left early and no one anticipated his final home game to be his Junior year but much lof the media has seemed to call Tebow the best QB to ever play college football. Both were phenomenal leaders for their teams, both were great winners, both were argueably the biggest dual threat QB's of their time, but I see Vince as a better passer and possibly a better runner. He doesnt have the number of TD runs as Tebow but he seemed to be more elusive and quicker. It's a tough debate but in watching both players I always had a feeling that Vince was going to to something spectacular but have bever seen that out of Tebow. Any thoughts?
The media loves Tebow and why shouldn't they? Good kid, very, very articulate in front of the camera, wins, and offers a face and body that is certainly not unattractive. Vince, on the other hand, could offer the media all of those things except one. Coincidence over who the media fawns? Someone who is well spoken and can give the media good sound bites will win it every time.
Tim Tebow is unattractive. As for VY, if he had come back his senior season he would probably get the media hype Tebow is getting with regard to the 'Greatest CFB player' arguments and whatnot.
VY was clearly the better runner. The reason he doesn't have the TDs is we had three running backs his junior year and ced his soph and freshman year. Florida has used tebow as their fb for 4 years. The debate on who was the better passer is not as clear cut imo. VY had more yards and tds his last year but tebow has alot fewer ints if remember right. As a hornfan I would take VY without even binking but tebow has his strengths.
Tebow's all-time record when trailing at halftime is 2-5. VY didn't come anywhere close to 5 losses. Tebow is very good but the lack of perspective in the coverage is just pathetic. VY is the best I've ever seen and I'm sure his senior season would have been one long victory tour media fluff-fest had he stayed.
Tebow vs. Vince Young????? Are you kidding???? Tebow cannot carry VY's jock strap. I am serious. VY could play circles around Gator Jesus.
Yards per attempt rushing: VY - 6.8 Tebow - 4.2 Don't even try to compare their running. Passing: Tebow was better at an earlier stage, but VY was just as good by his junior year. No doubt Vince would have had another stellar season passing had he come back. Records: VY was 30-2. Tebow is now 34-5. Edge to VY, especially when you consider he did not return for his senior year. Leadership: even Intangibles: VY was able to completely take a team on his back, and he did it against great competition. Tebow has largely built his reputation with easy stats against lesser teams. He has done nothing to compare to VY's two Rose Bowls, and it remains to be see how he will do against Texas' D this year.
I wasn't questioning who was better. I think hands down that VY is better than Tebow. It's not even close. My original post was more to do with the media love being shown to Tebow and how they are calling him not only the greatest QB but above that, the greatest player. I don't see it. We all know that Vince was a better player than Tebow so I'm just puzzeled as to why no one else sees it that way.
Vince was fantastic, but Tebow may be the best football player, as well as the best person in the history of the game, period. NFL teams are going to start throwing games in order to draft Tebow so they can make it to the Super Bowl next year.
Why are we even talking about VY? How about the guy that actually plays for us? He is the winningest QB in college football history. Shouldn't the real question be Colt vs Tebow?
If Tebow can hang 200 yds rushing and 267 passing on Bama or us, then we'll talk. (Or how 'bout 175/304 on nat'l TV against his UF's biggest rival - at their place.) Vince did it against "the greatest team of all time", the team against which few gave us a snowball's chance in Pasadena of ever defeating. Tim Tebow is a very good qb w/excellent intangibles. He impacted his team in a great way. Vince not only impacted his team, but influenced his coach to substantively change his approach to coaching. I would challenge any of the CBS crew to rewatch the 2006 Rose Bowl, then say again who the greatest college qb of all time was. That said, the best cfb qb in the nation held court in College Station, TX on Thanksgiving night. And if he keeps that kind of stuff up for two more games, I'll gladly redo this post.
On ESPN radio today they went on and on about Tebow playing his last game at the swamp. One of them said "you don't need to look at the numbers when trying to place Tebow in history because they don't stand out among the others considered the best, but what you can't measure is his heart and how he could will his time to victory." I sure wish Colt could "will" his team to victories.
