Do we really want Colt to win the Heisman?

Obviously, there isn't a guy in college football who deserves it more than Colt, and I'd be so proud of him to win it. But, recently the winner of the trophy goes on to lose in the title game (Bradford, Smith, Bush, White, Crouch, Weinke) in the BCS era. Teams with the current Heisman winner are 1-6 in the Championship game in the BCS era, with the only win coming against Oklahoma (which, was basically a gimme since OU sucks in big games as we all know).

So, do we really want Colt to win the Heisman, or do we want him to be snubbed, so as to light a fire in him and in every one of his team mates to go out and kick serious *** in January.

Yes because it's not a career award but the best player this year.

I don't think we'll be hurting for motivation in January.

I understand that it's only an individual award, but it adds prestige to a program, it unifies a fanbase, it helps with recruiting, etc.

Plus Colt would view it as a team award...

Colt and the team will have a fire lite in them for the national championship game whether Colt wins it or not. I really want him to win it. I was pissed with gameday saying it all comes down to the last game. It is like they are discounting Colt's huge game against aggy and also Ingram's dismal effort against Auburn.

    Go Pokes!

Here's a coinicidence for you: if Colt wins the Heisman, it will mean that the last two Longhorns to win it will have had their "Heisman moments" on TD runs of 60+ yards against aggy.

And Heisman winner Ricky won his bowl game in his last game as a Longhorn in the Cotton Bowl over Mississippi State.

Yes if for no other reason than to right the tragedy of not awarding it to Vince.

    The Curse of the Hesiman

While I'd like for Colt to win the Hesiman, as I think for the second straight year he's the best player in football, let's look at he Curse of the Hesiman for this decade.

    Year Winner Bowl Game Details
00 Weinke Loss FSU was dead on offense no points. Weinke played poorly
01 Crouch Loss NU hopelessly outmatched by Miami.
02 Palmer Win USC whipped up on a happy to be there Iowa.
03 White Loss OU still staggering from whipping in B12 game. Poor performance by whole offense, White included.
04 Leinart Win USC whipped up OU.
05 Bush Loss Bush was the 2nd most valuable RB to USC.
06 Smith Loss Smith, and the rest of OSU's team read too many press clippings about how good they were.
07 Tebow Loss Played OK, but Gator offense didn't make the plays at the end.
08 Bradford Loss Played OK, but again, no plays when it counted.

So of the last 9 winners, 7 have lost their bowl game, and in many of those games, the winner didn't have the kind of year they'd had in order to win it.

Maybe it's from too many people slapping you on the back, telling you how great you (and the rest of the team) are/is, but for whatever reasons, if you want to win your bowl game, don't have a Hesiman winner on the team.

That record is a little skewed, because two of those losses were by OU who always loses in the title game, and of course one was when we beat USC.

yeah, i'm not sure what to make of this wussy attitude... colt deserve the heisman, and if this team is who we thought they were, it doesn't matter one way or another.

I'll say I'd like Colt to get it... that being said if he isn't going to get it I'd rather him be home and focused on the bowl game than out doing the dinner circuit. You spend about a week or 2 traveling and going to dinners and being social when you should be out preparing to play the most important game of the year.

I think recent history shows that Heisman winners (and even runners-up to a degree- VY excluded) lose focus. Perhaps this award will regain some of its luster if they ever wise up and award it after all the games have been played.

Yep. Since they now count bowl game stats like the rest of the season, they should have the H award after the bowl games are over too.

This has been going on for a while, don't forget '77, Earl won it and we melted down in the National Champ game. I believe Rozier won it in '83 then N lost to Miami/Kosar. Didn't Toretta win it @ '93 and lose the mnc to Bama....i'm sure there are others....too lazy to research

Winning the heisman is cool and great for program. If colt wants to be a legend, let him focus and win and wipe his *** with your dumbass hex.
