I need ideas for some songs with a positive message. I use them at the beginning of class each day. They can't be too rowdy (this is the beginning of class) and absolutely no questionable language. They can be oldies or current. Some examples I have already used are: Poco - Follow Your Dreams Randy Travis - Point of Light Owl City - Fireflies Michael Jackson - Man in the Mirror Anyone got some suggestions? Thanks!
Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire American Pie by Don McLean Coming to America by Neil Diamond Signs by Five Man Electrical Band For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield War by Edwin Starr The Trees, Free Will, Closer to the Heart by Rush Revolution by The Beatles Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who Pride (in the name of love) by U2
One of my favorites: Sunny Hours by Long Beach Dub Allstars The Beatles have a ton of them, of course: i.e. Let it Be Here Comes the Sun All You Need is Love I'll Follow the Sun etc..
This exercise is kind of instructive. Popular and good poetry and music often delves into angst and fairy tale love. Not a lot is uncontroversial inspiration. With that said, you might want to consider: Whitney Houston -- The Greatest Love of All Peter Seeger -- Where have all the Flower Gone Stevie Wonder -- There's a Place in the Sun Johnny Cash -- The man in black Susan Boyle -- I dreamed a dream
"That's Just the Way It Is" -- Bruce Hornsby "Meant to Live" -- Switchfoot "Love Without End, Amen" -- George Strait
Afternoon Delight??? Ummm - suuuure! You must know my 8th graders pretty well. And it is not even spring yet. I guess I need to clarify a bit. If we use music in our classrooms, it needs to have a purpose. Not just play music to play music. This is music that would be playing as they come into the room and get ready for class etc, setting a tone. Our principal would like us to use songs with positive, personal messages as opposed to the mysoginistic crap they listen to on their ipods. If these were your kids, what would you want them listening to in school?
Slick Willie's Theme (Don't Stop) by Fleetwood Mac. The memory of all that confetti and **** flittering down at the inauguration while that song played still gives me goosebumps.
ill throw in another genre: Tupac- Keep ya head up Nas- I Can Common- The Light Outkast- Get up, get out
