Hornfans, a microcosm of the confused American psyche: A love scene in Harry Potter is now "porn; people excoriate Eldrick Woods for having sex; people gush over some porn actress who has a show on HBO.
Do you think they benefit from seeing gross violence? What is more natural? What is your hangup regarding sex, a natural process? A process by which babies are created? Why is it that a love scene with nudity in Harry Potter is called porn and that people get so upset over this but turn a blind eye to all the other violent crap out there? Would a 6-yo "benefit" from seeing this? That depends on the 6-yo, and the 6-yo's parents, I guess.
American "culture" is empty, soulless **** intended to sell stuff. Best to omit both sex and violence for anything aimed at the kids, says this father.
They started out kiddie, but the last few books were most definitely much more grown up. and if seeing a nekid man is going to ruin your kid for life, you might want to rethink what you're doing.
You don't really mean to say that I'm a pedophilia suspect if I go to a movie, do you? Does the movie matter? Does it matter if I go with my wife or girlfriend? BTW, I know lots of people more than 50 years old who have read all the books and seen all the movies. Harry Potter is a good read I'm told.
Perham1, I don't think violence is good for kids, either. I don't have any hangups about sex. And I never said this was "porn" -- I just pointed out the "R" rating that will inevitably be given if nudity is presented in the movie.
Harry Potter books mature in content as the characters age. It's as if Rowling was intending for people to be introduced to Harry Potter books at a certain level of maturity, say age 11 or so, and read one or two a year or so, until the series is completed by age 14-15 or so. Madmen wanting to exterminate people because of their parentage, killing people in rituals to preserve bits of his own shattered soul, etc., these aren't things for 6 year olds. So don't take them. As for the scene Ron imagines nude Harry with nude Hermione, surely that comes when he is to destroy the first Horcrux.
Clearly alot of people that have not read/know very little about Harry Potter on this thread. Oh, and it's British culture, not American.
I have no issue with nudity in films, but I don't see what it adds to this story other than to get some pre-production press and get people who otherwise might not have gone to the movie to go. I've read all the books and I don't remember anything that came close to what I would have interpreted as a "sex scene" so not really sure why this is necessary. I have a hard time it adds anything to the movie other than an "R" rating which they very well could be going for. The nature of the story would likely have it at PG-13.
just like what was the point of stating the dean of the school's character is gay. he doesnt act gay, have a boyfriend, etc, what was the point.
There was a description in the book of Harry being nude much later in the book tho, and that scene is reportedly being inserted as well. Don't look for either in the very next one that's coming out tho, but more likely in the 2nd part of the next movie due out in 2011.
They give off teh Aidz, which is why we can't let them marry. Because they'll raise children who think aidz is okay. But it's not, I tell you.
Additions of gratuitous sex scenes are usually a sign of a franchise dying out. Any sense that this is the case with Harry Potter...? And to the point above about making outing one of the characters....if that was inserted for the film version (and not in the book) it smacks of "ooh, look at me, I'm so progressive and and I have a forum to show everyone how progressive I am, hey everyone....look how progressive I am". What a load.

What a load. [/quoted] a) no gratuitous sex scene here. just a scene where an item possessed with an evil spirit is defending itself against Ron. The item is implanting images into Ron's head about Hermione and Harry being together. Which was in the book, the film is just making more of a point with the nudity because it doesn't have the text to develop the same emotions. b) the last book is where it was revealed that Dumbledore was gay, and it's never been mentioned in the films.
Dumbledore was not revealed to be gay in the seventh book. After publication of the last book, Rowling was asked in a q and a session whether Dumbledore ever found true love. Rowling answered that she always imagined him as being gay and went on to explain that he as a young man he fell for another young man, Grindelwald, who turned out to be totally evil. The Link Was this an "I'm cool" moment? Eh, who knows? It kind of fits what is known about Dumbledore's history--never married, no children, no love interest ever shown, so I would think it is likely that Rowling, once asked, might have seen the character that way. But there is no reference to his sexual preference in the book.
