No one buy before Christmas and we will all benefit. The money crunch will grow exponentially over the next week. We'll still have almost two weeks until gameday. The longer we wait, the better.
I am not advocating going to LA without tickets. That strategy may in fact work well, but I personally do not want to be dealing with tickets on game day. I am simply suggesting we (Texas fans) not drive up the prices like we usually do. Brokers love Texas fans because we are frenzied buyers. Bama will bring 35-40K max. There will not be 55K Bama fans inside the Rose Bowl like USC in 2006. Bama has many (extremely) wealthy alums, but they do not bring the numbers like Texas and they are not local like USC. This is not the Sugar Bowl or the Orange Bowl. It is tougher to load up the suburban and drive from Birmingham or Mobile. The novelty factor will allure some "Bamans" to the Rose Bowl, but for every one fan it lures, two will stay home. This is not a knock on Bama fans. They are some of the best in the country. This game is just not in their comfort zone as far as traveling and expense. I could be totally off, but I'm betting the last 5-8K tickets float around for a long time. The 2006 Rose Bowl was the toughest, most expensive BCS ticket ever. This game will not equal it.
for '05 game there were about 30K in the parking lot watching the game on tvs. There will be no tickets available at the game.
An army of Bama fans traveling to Pasadena, most paying $1000 or more per ticket? I'm betting the under on this one. We can revisit in January. IMO the market will come down and Bama will have no more than 40K in attendance. Texas will travel better (because we're used to it) and spend more money on tickets (unfortunately overspend).
I wouldn't say $600, but i think you'll see end zone tickets for $700. Aren't you selling on the other board P/C?
There's no question the market is high now, and will likely be high up until close to travel time. But I can't imagine the market will be anything like 2006 at the stadium site. The presence of Southern Cal made that market unique, IMO. I might be wrong, it may be exactly the same. Nobody has ever walked up to me and offered $1500 apiece for tickets before a game (glad a certain family member did not hear that offer). I just don't believe that will be going on this time. Southern Cal could have sold 100,000 tickets, and that won't be the case this time. We'll see, though.
Right now it's raining and about 45 degrees. Again, fan loyalty and passion does not necessarily equate to an army traveling over 2000 miles and spending $1000 plus on a ticket. It does equate to coming early (even blue hairs) draped in crimson and screaming your lungs out. They will be strong at the Rose Bowl, but it will not be like 2006. Their resources are more limited than ours as an alumni base. The economy has hit their state harder than it's hit ours. The Rose Bowl capacity is about 94K. How many fans do you expect Bama to bring? 45K? 50K? 55K? The market will come down because Bama will not buy it up like USC or Texas did in 2006....even if they bring 50K. Those who wait, IMO, will benefit from it.
We're all traveling. I frankly don't expect the Texas contingent to be as rabid this year as in 2006, depsite the higher donation limits. 2006 was the perfect storm. 2010 is not. Even if we show up in the exact same numbers, the Bama market cannot and will not equal the local USC market. I am not criticizing Bama. They are awesome. They are loyal. Their blue hairs scream obscenities well into the 4th quarter up by 30 pts.
Bama will indeed have an army. The RVs will be rolling across the country starting about Jan 2. Dont kid yourselves about that.
Don't forget, there were zero tickets to be had right before the 2005 game. If you got one, it was like you won the lottery. I saw more people than I ever have seriously holding up 1k in cash at the tailgates ready to buy with no sellers.
Wow, y'all are very risky to take part in the wait it out game again. Book it that this is the low point of the ticket market... we are 3 weeks away from game (lowest hype) and Texas fans just received their tickets and Bama fans get theirs next week. Prices are going to go up and remember the price increase in face value from 2006 to this year. once again there will be ZERO tickets to be had on site day of game. GET THEM NOW!!!
Worse yet, an investment advisor. The low point in the market is probably Dec 21 - 28. When the tickets get delivered, there will be a second glut. Again, not suggesting anyone go to LA without tickets. Just wait 7-10 days.
