Where are you staying in the LA/Pasadena area?

In 2005, I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Pasadena, and in 2006 stayed at the Hornfans hotel (the downtown Sheraton). Looking for something new/different this year, especially since the Sheraton is essentially sold out. Where are you staying and why?

In 2006 we stayed in Anaheim due to my mothers aversion to LAX and not realizing how far away LA is to Anaheim. We were quite literally across the street from Disneyland. Could see the Tower of Terror from our room. Damn annoying commute every day to do anything and hard for 4 people sharing a rental car.

This time we're staying at the Marriott Springhill Suites in Pasadena so we can be close to the RB. My parents are coming in just for the game so it's best for them too.

Got a decent flight/hotel package deal at Sheraton by LAX. Did not realize how far it is from Anaheim.

Staying in Ontario at the Hilton by the Airport, only about 30 minutes from Pasadena. $45 bid on priceline per night, holla!

Staying at the Orchid Suites in Hollywood. It's not fancy, but the price was right, and per Trip Advisor it's clean and good location (can anyone attest to that?) It'll be a bit of a drive to the RB, but that's ok.

Michigan ~ Stayed at The Mondrian on Sunset. Freaking awesome. Was there for New Year's Eve and did NYE at Sky Bar. Cool/Chic/Hip with pretty people everywhere. Was easily accessible to everything we did that year. Could walk to shops and bars on Sunset. Easy drive to Rodeo Drive for the girls. Highly reccomend it.

USC ~ Mondrian was sold out, so we stayed at Renaissance Hollywood. It is connected to Kodak Theatre. Cool/Hip, although not as much as Mondrian. But, great experience. Again, same easy access to stuff on Sunset and in the West Hollywood area. If anyone is considering it, I'd stay there again too.

This time, can't break tradition of staying in West Hollywood. Staying at The Andaz on Sunset. Looks cool. Has been totally re-done to a modern hotel. I actually have rooms booked at The Mondrian also, that i reserved i advance during halftime of OSU game. The cheapest room there now is $300 more than the rate I got. WOW!

Screw it, if I'm going to be out there, I'm going to do it nice. Then, I have to be in Palm Springs for a business meeting on Saturday, so we'll wake up friday and make our way to Palm Springs.....as National Champions!

In 05 and 06 stayed at Courtyard by Marriott on points both times. This time, staying at the Hilton at Universal City, again on points. Going to a Conan O'brian taping one night and Leno another afternoon. My son and 4 of his buddies are alos staying there, in fact they picked it first.

In 06 we stayed at a Travelodge on Sunset. It was pretty crappy and my wife was NOT happy there but if you asked her about the whole trip, she probably wouldn't mention it.

We're staying in 2 different hotels because we are using rewards. The Wednesday night we're staying in a Marriott near Marina Del Rey and then Thursday night will be at a DoubleTree in El Segundo. Free stuff is cool! Not exactly close to Pasadena but we got rooms with 2 double beds at both hotels and there wasn't anything closer to Pasadena.

Ringman, the Mondrian looks allsome, I've stayed at its sister hotel in San Francisco (the Clift), but their rates for the first week in January are $600-700/night (for the cheap ones). You were smart to reserve that room when you did.

In 2006 we stayed at the Beverly Garland's Holiday Inn not far from Universal Studios and close to the highway that goes to Pasadena - reasonably priced and good location (at least it was then).

Whatever you do, don't stay at the Quality Inn in Pasadena on Colorado. It's a rip-off joint that will "mistakenly" charge your credit card for stuff.

I actually have two rooms reserved for tuesday, wed., and thurs. nights that I don't think I am going to need if anyone needs them. I'll know for sure in two days. I already have rooms at the Andazz. Let me know if interested. I'd assume they can just be transferred to someone else.

    Sheraton in Culver City.

I'm supplying the tickets, and niece and her mother are putting us up via points. You think maybe they got the better deal? [IMG]

The hotel is within a few miles of LAX and so we'll have a short drive to our hotel and a short drive back to the airport on our departure day.

Just get a rental car and stay anywhere in the LA area you want. Don't worry about the drive to the Rose Bowl. Rule of thumb in southern California is that everything is an hour's drive. If you drive to the Rose Bowl in mid-day, you won't have have many delays until you get into the Pasadena area near the Rose Bowl itself.

The South Bay (Manhattan Beach, Hermosa or Redondo Beach) is a good choice. Plenty to do, and with a light jacket, you can take nice walks along the ocean. Check out the Kettle in Manhattan Beach for breakfast.
