It is a very rare case of a 5-star recruit commiting to us this late in the game. Good job Mack, in sticking with this guy and convincing him to come to Austin. If we can get even one of the two remaining big names - Hicks and Jeffcoat - to come, then the monkey will be off the back and we will have one of our best classes ever. Well, it is already close to one of our best classes though. R.J.
I have a hard time believing Darius White, Mike Davis, Jordan Shipley, Demarco Cobbs, Chris Jones, Darius Terrell, John Harris, and (maybe) Adrian Phillips will all sign come February. Hope I'm wrong, but last I checked you still can only throw one ball per play. At the very least 3 of these will play switch to defense unless they finally change that outdated rule....
Phillips from Garland will be playing DB. Terrell from Desoto is being move to TE or Flex TE as we like to call it now. Cobbs may end up at safety as well, but I believe he wants to start at WR first. Davis looked good in the UA game & everyone raved about his consistency & polished route running skills all week. White is the shocker & just an outstanding playmaker that will play next fall.
and if you meant Jaxon Shipley, he wont enroll for another year 2011 as he has another year of High School to go...and hasnt committed to Texas yet either.
I really don't like it when the players do the whole pick the hat up thing during their announcement. Makes them seem a bit full of themselves. But, maybe im just jealous I was not a big time recruit back in the day.
What ever! Its their moment and getting the chance to play D-1 ball is huge for some of these kids. Give them a break hard ***.
Phillips is a DB, and Harris can play DB also. Terrell is a TE, so only White, Davis, Cobbs and Jones are true WR's. No worry here.
Y'know ... Chris Simms ended up being a pretty damn good player for us. And without him, it would have been a lot harder to get Roy Williams, BJ Johnson and Sloan Thomas to come to Texas. I'm not trying to reignite those old debates, but to consider Simms to be a scrub unworthy of appreciation is pretty harsh. The guy had a couple of poor games, and one in particular that caused a lot of heartache, but he never loafed. He always played his *** off, and helped win us some important and hard-fought contests.
Yet another recruiting thread hijacked by the neverending Chris Simms debate. I suggest we draft a standard Chris Simms post to insert somewhere near the beginning of every recruiting thread just so we can get it out of the way. Something like: "Chris was/was not a great college quarterback who was victimized by/ruined Greg Davis' short passing game in the flat and who was treated inexcusably/as he deserved by the fans"
