At the hotel the next morning I congratulated the first bama fans I saw....(and it HURT)
They thanked me and said that, "the final score didn't really indicate how close the game was..."

What came rolling off my tongue was that " I was thinking a knee might have been more of the thing to do on that touchdown"...

...from there the bama fans went nuts...

"this is the National Championship game!"
"yall would have done the same thing!"
"most teams find it offensive if the other team takes a knee"

I just said "I couldn't see Mack Brown doing that in a million years...he's a classy guy...."

    then, the wheels came off...

"we don't care if you don't like us, we won, you lost..."
"you are classless for even mentioning this to us"

I then said they might be right about that...

    were they???

The only thing I can fault them for is not putting in their second team on that series. Other than that, he was not passing. About half of the coaches would have taken a knee in that situation. Mack Brown is one of them. But, let's get over it. We don't want to sound like aggy. We lost and they won. Congratulate them on the wind and be happy with the season we've had. It was extremely successful. We have a lot to be proud of. So do they. Let's leave the excuses and whining to the other teams. Hook 'Em!

I think they were right! They won and we lost. We will be back soon. We have a very bright future. We played one hell of a game with the hand that was dealt to us. That's football. We need to let this one go and be proud of the season we had. Hook'em.

Funny, the three Bama fans that congratulated me on a good game, didn't have much of a reply when I said, 'You could have done without that last TD". They actually seemed really embarrassed by it, and the ones I sat next to during the game even said they understood why we were booing during the PAT.

Still hurts thinking of him. Wish there was some way to make him feel better. I am grateful that he has his strong faith and many peers that have experienced agonizing adversity and can be there for him. Thinking of VY, Bradford and Jordan as well.

I remember laughing when matt leinart was quoted that the better team didn't win (back in 2006). I remember thinking that was a stupid thing to say, but now I understand that being disappointed you say and believe things to boost morale. So blowing off steam is one thing. To think, say, feel that with Colt we were the better team and that Satan, oops, Saban, scoring that final touchdown was classless is understandable. HOWEVER, it must have struck a chord with detergent aggy - why else would they react like that.

Who didn't wonder what OU would have been with Bradford this year? Who didn't wonder what Okie Lite would have looked like with Bryant the last half of the season? Who hasn't wondered about the outcome of the championship game if Colt had not gotten hurt? Who didn't wonder what Baylor would have done if Griffin hadn't gotten hurt? It's human nature to wonder these things. Doesn't change the outcome one bit, but in the disappointing outcome, I defend my right to wonder. And I defend anyone else's right to be defensive about his or her position on the matter too. [IMG]

P.S. ala bama will always be detergent aggy to me now. if they play the commies, i will pull for the commies just like i would if our aggy played the communists.

I agree w Cedar Park and thought thhe same thing at the time.

If they score with them, more power to them.

Plus, if I am a Bama player, I think, **** , it would be nice to get to say one day, I played in the BCS NCG.

I got no problem with the last TD. I'll remember this game as one where we fought back and had the ball down 3 with ~3 minutes to go - not one where we lost by 17 points. Bama ran the ball right up the middle on the play in question. They didn't call TO so that Harrell could score (like Tech @ aTm in '08) or go for 2 when they were up by 27 (like Harbaugh @ USC this year). Would Mack have taken a knee? Probably. But Nick Saban ain't Mack Brown.

    class is overrated and subjective.

"we" have it and "you" dont.

"we" and "you" are based on your own paradigm and what team you're rooting for.

    RobbyHorn....
I grew up liking 'BAMA...not sure why...maybe it was because they were from the SOUTH...I always rooted for 'BAMA....
I was looking forward to this game to finally see what 'BAMA was all about....
I thought they'd be like us....they were not....

after that last TD, I won't be rooting for any CRIMSON team in the near future....

I guess im in the minority here but i see nothing wrong with scoring the td. You play the 60 min. And why take a chance of some fluke happening.

    centex....something FLUKE happening...

remember the Ohio State game in Austin....we are getting ready to score from the two in the North end zone and the ball came out and Ohio State returned it to the 50 or so??? [IMG]

IF a knee is taken...the clock ticks...game over...you hand off the ball and send it into a NASTY defense trying to strip the ball....you could be screwed...

In 1976, I was standing on the sidelines as a cheerleader at the ou game where we had fought the HARDEST, TOUGHEST football game I've ever witnessed and we pitched the ball to a guy who dropped it and ou recovered and scored on the next play or the play after that...although I can't remember if we had to get at least a first down to run the clock out...I thought the time was under 2:00 min.

anyway...taking a knee with two or three guys around you to protect the ball would be the safest way to get OUT of the game...IMHO

Well let's do the math here. They got the ball back with what? 1:45 or something? We had a time-out. Can they run the clock all the way down with three knees? Maybe he was assuming we'd call a time-out after his first knee. But I have to think we'd let it roll.

But hell maybe not. Maybe we do call a time-out and then he's stuck kicking off to us after a FG? Then we onside again...and get another td?

A lot of the Alabama fans that were sitting around me made sure that I knew that they didn't approve of them not taking a knee. I told them I appreciated it but I am not sure I wouldn't have done the same thing just to make sure the game is out of reach. I've been watching football long enough that I've seen some crazy things happen.

--ferrari.....Waking up on morning THREE after the game, I'm guessing I sat in a bad spot maybe at the game...a Texas fan with a little too much beer in him got up and blasted (VERBALLY) an Alabama guy at some point in the first quarter...not even sure what it was about...someone called security and the guy was taken out by police after all the 'Bama fans fingered him...

the worse was the reaction of the Bama fan in front of me who's "ALL RIGHT!!!" at the news that Colt wouldn't be back in the game....

I admittedly take this stuff WAY TOO SERIOUSLY....

...other thing...after the game, not one 'Bama fan would ever look you in the eye...and they were as quiet as we were...I just thought that was odd as hell...

After how incredibly Colt McCoy has represented us for his time at Texas, I have to say that when he went down and was not coming back...my inner- three year old was sobbing uncontrollably....I just wanted better for him....

    made me laugh...

Saban going for an additional TD when he had the game won (and he could have just told McElroy to take a series of knees) made me hope he holds hands with Stoops while they both rot in hell.

Half this board is pissed that GG wasn't throwing the ball against UTEP when the game was over, but they hand off the ball when a game is over and we're whining?
