Muschamp's recruiting efforts sacked Greg McElroy five times in the big game. Muschamp's recruiting efforts play in the NFL. If I'm a defensive prospect and I'm considering Texas, I see all the recruiting efforts I need every Saturday in the fall.
Why is there still no difinitive statement issued by Muschamp, Mack, Athletic Dept. or University denying interest? Must be some talks going on...
They are probably waiting for the blessings of the academic community before announcing the obscene increase in salary.
I would guess that Mack and the other coaches are sitting around while Muschamp has them on speakerphone making obscene demands giggling and having some good off season fun.
Ketch trying to cover his *** for his "premature" He's Staying headline...if Musch does leave, he will have a lot of explaining to do, and I would hope he loses a lot of subscriptions.
I'm enjoying the cocky, arrogant posters around here... it's great to see everyone calling public figures names... I mean, WHO ARE YOU? An anonymous internet poster that's who. Is this your life?
that's what surprised me. ketch strikes me as a blow smoke up your *** everything is positive no matter what happens kind of a guy. to hear something remotely negative is interesting.
My guess is that they are in contract negotiations to give him a raise, and they are not going to announce anything until that is completed, period. I'm sure Muschamp's agent is (smartly) using Tennessee for leverage to get more $$$.Meanwhile, we all sit here and fidget and sweat... Orangebloods has softened their previous headline, make what you want of that. Could be they are not so sure anymore. Could be that they are just trying to get people to pay the subscription. Earlier today it said, "Not happening!" Now it says, "Multiple sources have indicated Muschamp will stay in Austin, but several other issues (and some chatter out of Knoxville) are giving reason to pause." So we're not out of the woods yet...
I don't think anyone should rest easy until the new Tenn coach has his press conference. This is not a question of WM taking a job at a Syracuse or an Iowa State or a Minnesota. It's much bigger than that and a much more substantial threat.
I think under his current contract he gets $2.5 mil a year in 2012 on forward. If Texas bumps that to $3, and give him 1.3mil for the 2 years, and then promise a $4 million signing bonus when he becomes the HC, the numbers should work out pretty close to what he would make if he left this year. Come on Will and continue to learn on the job from one of the best while you have fun
He's getting plenty of money; he's learning how to run a top-notch cfb program from the ******* Yoda of cfb CEOs; his family loves Austin and he's in the center of one of the most talent laden states in the nation (and gets to live in Austin, to boot).....if he can't show a little patience while getting paid 7 figures/year to grow into the position (he's 37 for f**k's sake)....then send him on his way.
diggler i'm inclined to agree with you. these constant renegotiations basically reaffirm the notion that the coach in waiting designation is just a reason to give the guy a **** ton of money--great than or at least equal to many division 1 head coaches. and truthfully that's texas' prerogative, that if they can afford to do that, then they should do that. however, all the speculation would get old after a while. makes him seem less like a coach in waiting and more like a coach waiting for a a better offer...and if one doesnt come up, well then eventually the texas job will be there.
