I am surprised nobody mentioned that Britt Hager's kid is going to Baylor. If he ends up like his dad, there are going to be some ice packs coming our way. The Link
In an interview, he said he was offered a preferred walk-on spot at Texas. Didn't have too many offers, but I'm excited Baylor got him. His dad was before my time, but sounded like a player himself.
His dad was a stud and the son is a very good high school player. I wish him well. Wish we could have extra scholarships for promising legacies.
Best of luck to him. Britt is an all-time top 5 MIKE at The University. I enjoyed watching him on the 40.
Britt was the last one to wear the #60 properly. Sure Brian Jones did after him, and was not bad either - but it never felt like he was fully justifying the jersey number during his time. Britt was something else altogether. Great player. R.J.
So do we or will we have a future no. 60 on campus in 2010? Opinions? I think we really need another no. 60 on campus. It's been too long. DJ was an awesome OLB. We deperately need a badass MIKE.
Damn I feel old. Britt probably does as well. Didn't he sport a fu manchu? Maybe I'm thinking of Genghis Khan.
God that makes me feel old. 24 years ago I used to see him on campus in between classes. 15 years ago, I refereed one of Bryce's Pop Warner games and Britt was on my volunteer chain crew. Great guy. Used to scare the hell out of me, but never heard a bad word about him and the 2 hours I spent with him on the sidelines at that game really showed me a good man and a good father with the right priorities. His kid was a pretty good player too, at that level.
I used to go to the practices back in 1987 and watch him beat the **** out of the team...and of course his GF was mucho beauitful...
Mr. Hager wore #60 properly and was just one of those guys that was in on almost every tackle everywhere on the field. For those of you younger, think a smaller Derrick Johnson in a more running conference with less of a supporting cast. He was just everywhere, and he laid it all out every play. Glad his kid got a BigXII scholarship, and if he got the old man's work ethic he'll be a player.
I wish him well. Wish we could have extra scholarships for promising legacies. Why is this? Your either good enough to get the schloar or you play somewhere else. Or as it was said they did offer him the walk on option and he declined.
It's funny how many people remember seeing Britt Hage on campus. Those were the early days of learning UT football (actually, football itself) for me, but Britt was the only UT athlete that I remember seeing on the UT shuttles (the old faster/nimbler school style orange buses with blaring music and funny drivers before Capitol Metro made a "hostile" takeover with UT administration's staying quiet and we students' protesting mildly) ... May be Birtt's hair was why he was noticeable.... R.J.
