Funny even Bohls seems to get it. He lists the very same points I have been saying for days. Shark are you finally starting to get how impossible this would be? Too many obstacles man.... The Link "Texas headed to the Big Ten? Not likely Kirk Bohls, Commentary I'll put this as succinctly as possible: Texas isn't joining the Big Ten. No way, no how. So put down your Ohio State pompoms and that JoePa pennant."
The PAC 10 does it. Money is going to dictate this decision, just like every other one. I don't think Dodds will be short sighted. If he thinks the Big 12 can make it work long term, we'll stay. If not, I think we're gone. But make no mistake. Money is the driver in college athletics.
There are three centers of growing power in college football - the southeast, California, and Texas. I think we should hold fort where we are. We are in a good spot.
The only way Texas will be able to escape little brother is money. Tell aggy to go to the SEC, and they will have a chance of being beat by Texas in the MNC (or what passes for the MNC in the year 2414).
Never, ever forget that Bohls not only voted against Vince for the Heisman, but actually wrote a column detailing why. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
It's not just Bohls' opinion. He claims to have big hitter sources in the UT Athletic Department saying it ain't gonna happen. Unless he is out and out fabricating, that's tough to ignore.
I'm sure Bohls does have some "big hitter sources in the UT Athletic Department saying it ain't gonna happen." But that's the point Bohls misses. It's not the UT Athletic Department that will be making the final decision on conference realignment; it's the UT Admininstration. That's why many of us have a gut feeling there's fire at the heart of all this smoke.
Different situations. If the B10 were as splintered as the B12, and Mich, MichSt and Pur were in talks with ND, Pitt, BC,... about starting a new conference then OSU fans may feel like us. The B12 as a whole seems to resent us, half of them would applaud our departure. I wouldn't want to leave the B12 but for this lack of unity. We're like the wealthy uppity cousin at the family reunion that no one wants to sit next to or get to know because he didn't grow up in Hooterville like the others. They all want him to foot the bill for the food and then go sit in the corner...
Expanded Big 10: East Penn State Ohio State Michigan Michigan State Indiana Purdue Northwestern Illinois West Texas Oklahoma Nebraska Kansas Missouri Iowa Wisconsin Minnesota Colorado and Texas Tech to the Pac 10. aggy to the SEC. We keep our Thanksgiving game with aggy as part of the deal.
Funniest thing would be that if we left the Big 12 and no longer played A&M on a regular basis, then aggy would have to change their entire fight song. Our fight song, OTOH, would actually make more sense: "And its goodbye to A&M!"
Joining the Big 10 is simply NOT going to happen . . . if for the simple reason that it is far too cold up in the Big 10. Texas athletics' decision makers understand that and won't expose our athletes to those conditions (so very different from what they typically experience in Austin and most of the Big XII). Texas has a much greater chance of joining the PAC 10 than the Big XII. I'd love it if Deloss made that move. In November, I'd much rather head to games in Arizona or LA or the Bay Area or even Oregon or Washington than pathetic Columbus, Ohio or Minneapolis or any of the other winter hell holes in the Big 10.
