giant being a relative term, of course. in the last 2 days, i've seen a half dozen or so supermosquitos that are enormous as mosquitos go. like if one was standing on a dime, its legs would be around the edges, as would its butt and nose. big. then this morning there is a black caterpillar by my front door that is about 4 inches long and as big around as my pinky finger. i picked him up but he just curled up into a ball. he wasn't fuzzy, but wasn't prickly either. kind of like he was covered in eye lashes.
found the caterpillar online. giant leopard moth caterpillar. here it is in someone's hand for scale.
I'm guessing your giant mosquitos are actually mosquito hawks. They look like giant mosquitos, but I think they're not the bitin type. Mosquito hawk
nope they're not mosquito hawks, they've got a little smaller body, much shorter legs, and a proboscus. you know how there's a normal housefly, then there's a horsefly that's like 3 times as big? well these skeeters are similarly proportioned. i flicked one off of my dog and it made two blood spots on the wall that looked to be full sized drops, plus what it left on my finger. this is a mosquito.
