Happened across the street from my office. First and second-hand info: Single engine plane. Ball of fire explosion. People at next-door buildings could feel the shockwave. It hit the IRS building. Happened to be next door to the FBI building, and those guys were out there fast. There was a big hole on the bottom of the building where the plane hit. The fire spread from there. When I first arrived, emergency workers were saying that there were still people trapped on the 2nd floor.
HOLY ****!!! I know the people involved! I've been in their house, the one set on fire this morning. This is FREAKY AS ****!!! They were cookie-cutter types. I can't believe this happened!!!
News 36 and CNN have named their names. The mom and her daughter made it out safely. The father apparently set the house on fire and then took the plane out and crashed it into the building. The house is on a VERY peaceful street. They had a very clean, orderly home. As middle America as it gets.
That live link above reporting the plane actually hit a Lexus on 183 below the building. Maybe the plane missed the building, just fuel ignited the building? It seems very likely this was a deliberate act now.
CNN just confirmed that an intentional house fire set on Dappel Grey Street in the Scofield Farms subdivision, which is off Parmer Lane between IH-35 and MoPac, was set by the same guy who crashed the airplane into or at the base of the building. This was a deliberate act, domestic terrorism basically. Another Timothy McVea, unibomber, whatever you want to compare it to.
i guess the next question would be... "what did he have going on with the IRS?" or was it just coincidence?
It was his plane. They were saying at first that he stole it, but they confirmed that it was registered in his name.
One report said the plane came from Waco, but there is another thread over on Cactus Cafe where the poster says the plane was stolen from the Georgetown airport and that the guy lived in Georgetown. So some conflicting rumors/reports at this time.

Wow, the suicide note left by the terrorist, very similar to the unibomber's manifesto in many ways, although directed more at the IRS. He went to college in Pennsylvania, was in California prior to moving to Austin (don't know how long he has been in Austin). He was an engineer. Should have taken some liberal arts classes.
The suicide note would make this appear to be incorrect. _________________________________________________ well i stand corrected.
olbermann is doing everything he can right now to link this guy to the tea party and may do so anyway.
general, that is kind of funny because i was thinking that same thing earlier but didn't want to post it and look insensitive. with all his tax rhetoric, if not olberman, somebody will try to make the link.
Gotta love these local morning reporters. Bet they never thought their newscast would be picked up by the cable news giants.
