Perry is joining the following institutions with this petition:
Competitive Enterprise Institute and FreedomWorks, The National Association of Manufacturers, the American Petroleum Institute and the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association.

The backbone of his argument, as noted during his press conference today are the emails from scientists discussed by skeptics.

Let's keep the discussion away from amateur scientist hour opining on whether or not they like ice samples or carbon dating- instead I'm curious the board's opinions on whether or not Perry is a schmuck pulling an election year ploy to rile up climate change skeptics, or instead is genuinely "defending Federal over-reach" via the EPA. Keep in mind the Perry has no problem with the same exact EPA position on sulfur or mercury which has been around for nearly 20 years.

Yes you can guess my opinion- but I'd like to hear others..

We can agree on one thing, Perry is a dirt bag. I would put him in the same category as a harry reid or pelosi. politicians truly corrupt and out for themselves.

Except for the fact that Reid and Pelosi, for all their many faults, haven't committed murder.

Election time. He is making sure primary voters think he is right of KBH.

It's election BS. Not far from secession talks.

Ironically, we're closer to the EPA taking over the TCEQ. Now that would be funny. And good.

It may be election year posturing, but he is right. The EPA has no authority to tell the people of Texas what we can and can't do regarding out resources. There are 49 other states who should have the stones to stand up and do the same. Whether you agree with the EPA position on CO2 being a pollutant or not is not the issue. The issue is they have no authority to enforce anything in Texas. At least no unless we voted on some enumerated power granting them that authority which last I checked has not happened.

    911-

Do all the 49 other states not have the 'stones' to tell the Federal govt to stop monitoring our food (FDA), health, securities transactions (SEC), energy (NERC, DOE), transit (FTA), tobacco and alcohol (ATF), when you fly (FAA), etc etc.?

Maybe you should tell Texas to stop monitoring you when you hunt and fish?

I hear Haiti is light on govt. if that is what you prefer.

Another great example of spending tax payer money to protect the filthy rich polluters.

If there is a case let the polluters pay for it! Not my tax dollars [IMG]

Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulfur hexafluoride?

All sounds perfectly healthy to me.

I'm glad I don't have children. They'd have to live in this muck.

I wonder what would happen if some EPA officials came down and tried to close come of the plants in Pasadena. Would Perry have them arrested and/or tell them to f**k off or would he let them?

Of course he is doing this partly because it is election time. But why did those other groups do it?

I meant why now, if Perry is doing it only because of the election why would these organizations do it now?

In line with this action are the 3 major companies pulling out of USClimate Action Partnership.
Like Perry these 3 big companies question the conclusions of AGW based on flawed manipulated data.I notice tghe 3 companies Like Perry pledged to continue their efforts for cleaner energy and air.

At least now there will be new closely watched studies done by above board scientists who know they can't fake anything. I do not see how anyone could object to that.

Horn- those orgs beat Perry to it- they are always against the EPA given their obvious desire to make a buck. Not that it's a bad thing, but something has to give us 1st world standards compared to our 3rd world friends when it comes to doing business the clean and ethical way.
And they aren't companies, they are special interest groups banded together.

Regarding companies, we had a thread a few weeks ago about 83 companies in favor of climate change legislation. To your surprise- a few of them are in the energy sector. I think it's safe to say by far more companies are public about their support of the EPA or climate legislation than against. Here's the link:

I am no defender of Perry. I am also no defender of the EPA. The EPA does some great work, let us not kid ourselves. But the comments about kids earlier are funny seeing as according to the EPA my 3 1/2 month old is polluting Texas since he is breathing out CO2. I expect a tax on his breathing soon.
The US has become a truly messed up place. Not saying the rest of the world isn't... not saying that at all... just saying that it is all pretty sad when you stop to think about it. Perry on one hand and the EPA on the other.... it's like I(we) am /are in the middle of a sandwhich with **** for bread on both sides.

    THEU,

In this **** sandwich, do you really think the EPA holds the breath of your child in the same ballpark as a cocktail of sulfur, mercury and carbon in the quantity of tens of millions of tons from a coal plant? I know you're probably just being facetious, but still- stuff like that sticks for some folks here.

i wish there was a way to only challenge the CO2 without challenging the other ones. i would also like to know what Perry's plans are for reducing the other 5 (no expert, but at first blush the 5 we dont' breathe out seem fairly negative!).

well, for one thing she seems like a liberal when it comes to abortion......she is also weak on spending, but so is Perry.....i hope some other candidate makes good headway.

hey, why don't you answer my emails?

The EPA does not do enough in most cases to prevent pollution. I find it laughable when it is claimed that they are overstepping their authority in trying to regulate.

It is also frustrating living in Austin and Travis county which are very focused on being environmentally friendly....and then you simultaneously live in a state which is one of the worst polluting states (houston in particular) and is not a leading state on the environmental front. I mean I actually live in a state where the candidate will get more votes by sueing the EPA in order to decrease regulation that will allow more polluting to occur. F this guy.
