As DeLoss Dodds said in a recent ESPN article, when our contracts come up for renewal, "It will be the Big 12's turn. Yeah, in five freaking years. By that time the Big 12 will be so far behind that a new contract won't catch us up.
Big 10's numbers are also with only 11 teams. It would seem that their revenue would increase by adding a 12th team. Whether or not it increases per team revenue is the question.
Unless the Big 12 can find some way to extract itself from it's current mudhole contract, we will have to wait another five years to improve our lot. What will the landscape be like in 2015?
Why can't the BIg 12 go out and start its own network like the Big 10 did. That way our games would be spotlighted more and they could show other sports as well. Also when we renegotiate our contract I would rather the Big 12 not get in bed with ESPN/ABC. They are everything that is wrong with college football right now IMO. I just can't see that being a positive move other than more revenue. You need to have more competing networks IMO, not less.
Let's not forget that all this wouldn't have even been possible if OU hadn't taken a huge risk in 1984 and sued the NCAA over television rights.
