When recording a "series" how can you get it not record the "late night" (for example 1am) recording. The late night recording is not a considered a rerun therefore it gets recorded.

hmmm I dont seem to have this issue, but maybe Im not recording stuff that has a late night run. You do have the record only first showing option on?

my DVR is "malfunctioning" in this way too. if i put it as "first run" it will still record other airtimes. i believe it has to do with whether the guide labels it as "new"...... although that is just a hunch.

My experience has been that if you set it to record "new" showings, and you are already recording two shows in the "prime time" slot it will automatically record the next showing that day. But it has to be that same day.

For example if you have 3 shows that you want to record at 8 pm. One of them also has an 11 pm rerun of that same episode, it will record the 2 that are on at 8 and then the 3rd show will get the 11 pm show.

You may have to set your prioritizer so that the 2 shows with only 8pm shows have priority, I didn't but may have just lucked out.

I don't have DirectTV, but with both Time Warner and Uverse there is an option in the series recording settings where you have it record first run only in this time slot, or at any time. I would think you probably have that option in DirectTV settings too....

I understand what you are saying about the "prioritizer" and it isn't that. For example it is set to record this show 3 times on Saturday when nothing else is being recorded.

We did not have that problem with our old DVR but do now with the new one. Also with our old DVR one could retrieve a show when it was accidently deleted not with the new one.

Go into the recordings list (menu->recordings, I think)

Choose the series you want and there's an option to record "Only if New" or "All Episodes".

    texasownzyou,

thanks, but we've done that. that is how the series recording is setup in the first place.
