Anyone take note that Saturday morning, with Cayuga's 66-60 win in OT for the state title, that Traylon Shead comes to Texas as a running back who has won both football and basketball state championships in the same season -- and that it's only the fourth time that's ever been done in Texas: for a high school to win both football and basketball championships in the same season.

He scored 15 points in the championship game. Pretty cool. I didn't get to the game, but a few years ago I did see Colt play in the state tourney, though in a losing effort (his senior year).

Congratulations, Traylon! And I looked up Cayuga on Google Earth, and I can't even see a town there. Can't find any stores or a school. Don't let the bustling 40 acres make you too dizzy. Just make tacklers dizzy on Saturdays!!

Indeed, I did have the pleasure of seeing that game. And what an amazing game it was. Cayuga was down by 6 with a little over a minute remaining. In comes a freshman who knocks down back to back 3's each from at least 22'. The game goes in to overtime and Cayuga was able to pull out the victory despite shooting 24 for 79 from the field. Also, they made 9 of 36 three point attempts.

Shead isn't built like your typical high school senior to say the least. I'm glad he's on our side.

Lastly, I believe that's the first time a 1A school has won the football and basketball championship in the same season. Don't look now but I heard Shead has a legitimate shot to bring home another state title in track (100, 400m relay).
