1:20 left in OT . . . . J'Covan commits a charge with the Longhorns up 78-72, in the double-bonus and with 0:26 on the shot clock. P.J. Tucker has caught some serious crap over the years for dribbling out the clock at aTm, but this has to go down as the Biggest bone-head play UT Basketball history. You are a 90% FT shooter - let them hack you.

0:49.4 left in OT . . . . J'Covan Brown - remember him, the guy with the 90% FT shooting - misses both FTs.

0:35.4 left in OT . . . . Damion James fouls on a rebound and allows a 57% FT shooter to hit both FTs.

    0:28.2 left in OT . . . . J'Covan Brown hits 1/2 FTs to give the Horns a 4-point lead

0:10 left in OT . . . . Horns put the ball into G.Johnson's hands in crunch time. Gary (70% FT shooter) misses both.

0:1.9 left in OT . . . . Wake hits winning shot from the paint.

Can you belive we lost because of bone-head play AND horrible FT shooting?? Who possibly saw that coming? Absolutely pathetic performance all year and then they summarized it again in one 80 second span. The good news is this abortion of a season is finally over and this group of underachievers can infuriate me no longer. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

How many games have we lost this year because of FT shooting?? While I realize electronic correspondence carries no tone, do you really have to ask if that comment was sarcastic?

I have lived thru the worst of times (Wacker goes down, Bob Weltich, cheerleaders & walk-ons playing, etc . . .) and can say with no hesitation that this is one of our darkest hours. Polish up the resume, Rick.

That was not a charge. The defender did not establish position.

That was a great rebound by Damion.

If Brown doesn't commit that charge and just runs the clock out, we have a 6-point lead with 54 seconds to go. It took the "perfect storm" to blow that game, but we are just the type of team capable of such a choke job. Thank God this season is over. [IMG]

While it may be true that the charge call was the wrong call and it may also be true that the foul on James on the rebound was a bad call, it really comes down to being smart enough to finish a game and to not put yourself in those positions to begin with. But then again, this team is not very smart... at least not in basketball terms. At the end, I wasn't terribly upset that we lost because watching this team this season has just been rough. Now I can watch the rest of the tourney in peace and not be pissed all throughout any remaining Texas games. Hopefully, in the off-season the Horns can find an offense, learn how to shoot FT's better, learn how to block out, and find some heart and a will to win. A tall order for sure, but anything's possible I suppose.

A pathetic end to probably the worst basketball season in Longhorn history, considering the preseason hype.

Barnes has blown his opportunity to create a dynasty. Why would any big name recruit come to Texas after this?

Don't know if I've seen so many Texas players out of position in 1 game on defense as to allow that many easy slam dunk put backs while no one blocks out. Simply amazing how bad the Horns defense and free throw shooting can be and the total lack of any real imaginative set offensive plays this entire season.

    Textbook choke? Yes.

    Blame it on J'Covan? No!!
He played his *** off and contributed at an Insane level, especially for a Freshman, in the 2nd half and OT! The charge call was ******** because the defender had not established position. I have to respectfully disagree Chest..

The blame rests on our upperclassmen, no??
    And our coaching staff...

Team just lacked 1 upperclassman on the perimeter that we could count on late in games. That is how close we were this year.

Team lost and the mistakes down the stretch were their achilles heal all season long...missed FTs and missed point blank layups and dunks. Pittman, Johnson, Brown all had chances down the stretch to make a bucket or FT to seal the game and failed to do so.

I am really glad the season is over. I don't have to waste any more of my time with this under-achieving bunch.

The funny thing is that the only reason it was so close at the end of regulation and OT was that both teams were trying to give the game away. "Please, you win." "No, really, you first."

    Pitter,
I believe your sarcasm meter is severely damaged. Might want to think about a new one.

It was upperclassmen that gave up 2 dunks which should have been defensive rebounds. Aminu was either Johnson or Jame's man. It was the upperclassmen that lost this one. Sorry.

Completely agree with Texascoder. What UT fan enjoys watching this team?

I love bball, but have been made at my TV throughout most of this season when watching games. This team was no fun to watch. I was prepare to hide my head under a pillow if we had to play Kentucky.

It was a crappy year, rick did a crappy job of getting through to his players although i can tell you he was more frustrated than any of us. these freshman are clueless and dont play that hard. perhaps they will learn to over the summer. this responsibility lies with the coach but lets not throw him under the bus yet. north carolina has better players than we do, plays in less competititve conference and is playing in the NIT. I dont think Roy is going to be fired anytime soon.

Comparing Rick Barnes to Roy Williams?? Williams has taken 7 teams to the Final Four and 4 times played for the NC (winning 2). Barnes couldn't coach a team that consisted of Kevin Durant, D.J. Augustin, Damion James and A.J. Abrams past the round of 32.

Barnes is slightly above-average as a coach and IMO incapable of taking us to the next level - from a "good program" to an elite one. If he left today, he would without question be leaving the program in better shape than when he took it over 12 years ago and for that I applaud him. He'll continue to win ~25 games/year and occassionally get us to the Sweet 16, but I would hope our Athletic Department sets the bar (expectations) a little higher.

I'm not starting a "Fire Barnes" campaign and as of right now, I think he's owed at least 1 more year to redeem himself from this debale. But if your program is not moving forward, it is moving backwards. It is obvious that aTm and Baylor are moving forward. Are we??
