By revoting a steroid user as the defensive rookie of the year. The message sent to kids: Don't take steroids and get caught, but if you are good - it will not matter.
Uh, you do realize that he NEVER tested positive for steroids don't you? I'm no Cushing fan, but I don't think that testing positive for a substance that could be used by former steroid users indicates that he is using steroids. To put it this way, if this were being tried in a court of law, it would be thrown out for lack of evidence. Besides, the AP didn't take away Pepper's award and they knew BEFORE they voted that he was dirty.
The AP has been telling kids that steroids are okay all along. They've voted Kevin Williams to the all pro team twice since he got busted in the Star Caps case, including this year. They voted for Peppers as ROY when he was suspended for 4 games DURING his rookie year for PED's. This is just a case of the AP voters being pissed that they weren't told about something. If they want to make a difference and send the right message to kids, they'll put pressure on the league to change the system. Taking it out on one player out of the dozens that get busted is ridiculous.
2Far, he tested positive for female fertility drugs, which are used as a masking agent for steroid use. Do you really think he just decided to get pregnant? Come on, he was cycling steroids and using a masking agent. What other possible reason could he have for FEMALE fertility drugs in his system?
I think it's to the point where people simply don't care if NFL players take steroids. Look at how successful people like Merriman and Peppers are. Hell even Baseball steroid allegations have lost the power or reputation ruination they once had.
If they were going to revote they should have waited until there was some concrete evidence. With no evidence why should a voter take away a vote?
