Not surprising, certainly not surprising that people in the conference are concerned about losing a couple of schools. It would be foolish not to be concerned and I have no doubt that some conversations have taken place.

Also no surprise that the Pac 10 is interested in it - that smoke has been hovering around for a long time, so I wouldn't doubt there's something there on some level. I would add too that just like in any business ventures, if those parties are actually discussing something, I'm sure there's a confidentiality clause involved and they're certainly not going to broadcast that to the world until it actually happens.

I still think that a bulked-up Pac 10 is the best answer for Texas, and I'd be happy to see it happen.

The concepts aren't surprising but the fact that Mack told these things directly to Saban and Saban expressed them publicly is a big step forward in legitimizing all of this........

I'm surprised Mack told Saban. He's someone who can't keep his mouth shut. [IMG]

Recruiting wise, I really hope that the texas big 12 schools don't split completely. It would really suck to have Texas go to the pac 10, opening up all the western schools to Texas recruits; then have A&M go to the SEC, and Tech staying with the leftovers of the Big 12.

As it is (for TX recruits) we and OU really split the cream, and everyone else gets a guy or two here and there, and leftovers. I don't see OU going to the PAC 10 with their Academics, so them and A&M would go SEC. Okie lite would probably be stuck with Kansas, Kstate and Tech, etc... so all those schools would stay with direct recruiting in TX too. That would be two super conferences and a mid-level conference playing in and recruiting in Texas. Too many hands in the pot IMHO.

We are already the top $$ grossing Athletic department in the Nation. We are dominant in just about every sport. We have everything to lose, and nothing to gain with all this mixup. Too bad the big 12 north couldn't hold up its part of the bargain and stay competitive. I am particularly disappointed in CU. I expected them to continue to successfully recruit some SoCal kids here and there to diversify the talent base of the big 12: FAIL.

Neb had a bad coaching hire. Perhaps Texas can remember John MackoVick.
That alone put NU back 5 yrs. Though not likely they'll ever see days like the early 90's (with ou down, and their only league competition, they ran amuck), they can, however, get back to nat'l prominence with current staff. I do believe moving to B10 would hurt their chances of a full recovery and could doom them to 10-15 yrs of mediocrity. Kansas, I don't remember them ever having consistency in fb. A good yr here or there. Orca gave them a couple of yrs and it looks like they've got a solid footing now. They look to be a regular on the bowl circuit now and that is a positive change. I think they've benefited from going in league with the Texas schools as they've recruited the state well.

Nebraska football is dead. They won't ever be a national contender again.

Let them go to the Big 10, I'll be happy to get their whining asses out of our lives.

The more I think about it the more I want Missouri to just leave. They bring nothing to the table. They are not important and the conference can do much better. They will do in the Big Televenty what they did here, squat. They will bow their chests here and there and get punked. They will fade away and then make a meek noise before fading again. Go away.

The issue is revenue, not wins and championships (although these things are somewhat related). Missouri has TV viewers. Look at the Ags. They have okay teams and few championships, but a large and rabid following willing to spend bucks despite the product on the field. Other conferences have an interest in A&M for this reason alone.

People are making the realignment thing much more complicated than it really is. It's about:
    Money
    Money
    and
    Money

Oh, and tv sets, which translates to...ta da...
    Money

Mizzou is mediocre at best, but brings (supposedly) St. Louis' tv market, and part of Kansas City's. The best option for the Big 12 to replace Mizzou when (not IF) they go to the Big 10 is either Salt Lake City or Albuquerque, with Louisville and Cincy possibilities as well. Memphis?...not so much.

Salt Lake City? I think you go with Utah, which has a little less baggage than BYU. (The whole "not playing on Sunday" bit.)

Albuquerque? Interesting. UNM is by no stretch an athletic power, but the market's nice, and with a new coach, the Lobos could improve. Coach Fran showed you can win there, plus you bring in the whole "UFO" flyover possibility.

Cincy and Louisville? Not bad options, if you can somehow fit them into the Big 12 footprint, but neither is a really big dog in their respective states athletically.

Memphis? Great when you want some ribs, and a fertile recruiting ground, but just about the same as adding any other "City" college, like Cougar High, etc.

Let's see a show of hands of anybody who's excited by any of the replacement possibilities...(Crickets chirping...)

There's your options, and none of them mean as much money to the Big 12 as Mizzou, Nebraska, and Colorado, all of whom could bolt the first time another conference whispers sweet nothings to 'em.

UT will wind up okay in all of this relocation business, and aggy too, riding in on our coattails, courtesy of the leg. I figure where we go, okie goes as well, but the rest of the Big 12? You're on your own, baby...

Could we go to the SEC? That is my favorite conference from a competition stand point.

I'd have hoped those two things sounded like "duck" and "poo"
