  1. At age 99. R.I.P to a bonafide basketball legend.

HBO did an outstanding 1 hour documentary on Wooden and the UCLA dynasty a couple of years ago. It really gave a great impression of what high regard Wooden's former players hold him.

Basketball Royalty. Those last 25 years without Nell at his side were probably brutal for him. A love affair for the ages. RIP.

My favorite John Woodenism is this:

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, for while your reputation is what other people think you are, your character is what you truly are.

Got to meet him twice. Also got to shake hands with the President once (Not current one), but I don't consider that as great a brush with fame as shaking hands with Coach Wooden. I guess I was just in awe of him, & I still am. He was truly a man of principles.

    HOOK 'EM,

What an interesting comparrison. I shook hands with LBJ, Ford, Bush Sr and Clinton. Also Coach Wooden and Barbara Jordan. Despite being the biggest Clinton lackey on the planet, I knew I was in the company of greatness with Wooden and Jordan.

The others, four leaders of the free world, greatness only in varying degrees.
