My wife and I will be in NYC June 14-18th (M-F) and are looking for some places to relax after busy days. We aren't looking for lines, cover charges, and strict dress codes. We will be staying in midtown and would like some suggestions for that area as well as some dive bar type places possibly in the East Village.

My wife would like to go to a lounge type place one night - maybe something similar to Cuba Libre here in Austin.

We will also need a place to watch the US soccer game.

McSorley's is in the East Village on 7th Street between 2nd and 3rd. It's the oldest bar in NYC so definitely worth checking out if you've never been. Another place I like in the EV is Swift, it's an Irish Bar with a huge beer selection on tap and bottles. It's on 4th St between Bowery and Lafayette.

Midtown is slim pickings, Johnny Utahs has a good happy hour and an entertaining mechanical bull. I would avoid anything near Times Square as they're all really overpriced with no happy hour specials.

Thanks for the heads up. We will check those out in the EV.

For somewhere goood to eat, try Bar AMericain (one of FLay's places) in Midtown. Food is good, lively atmosphere

I know this is kind of last second, but a real good spot to watch the USA game today will be Nevada Smith's down in the East Village as well (I'll be headed over there if you're interested). It's one of the most popular soccer bars in NY so it will be packed.

The address is 74 Third Ave, between 11th and 12th St.
