Is this a slap in the face of Nebraska?

It seems like we just told them, "Go ahead, we do not need you".() We already knew we didnt need Colorado. But I think we just told Neb, you are not as important as you think you are.

Since the Big 12(10) IS staying together does corn and CU have to pay the conference fine/penalty to the remaining members?

It does make Osborne's claims of UT/OU/atm/TT/OSU breaking up the conference look ridiculous. Of course, everyone knew he was being disingenuous anyway.

I doubt the NU brass cares one way or another. From what I can tell nearly all NU fans are ecstatic about the change.

    Good luck.

I live in St. Louis and I expect a personal phone call and/or gift basket from all my friends/family who went to Mizzou.

The conference was crippled by Corn leaving. Colo could easily be replaced, but there is not a decent substitute for Neb. The reconstituted "Big 12" is already on life support, and everyone knows it.

Neb did well for themselves (relative to the others), but they basically killed the conference - imo.

THe only thing it proves is that Osborne is a whiny old man who needs to win a little before he starts crowing.

The only good thing about not going to the College World Series is that no one will have to spend their money in Nebraska.

Nebraska is the only clear winner I see out of this whole mess. They'll gladly pay the 10 mil.
Big 10 pretty much treads water. PAC 10 is saddled with a loser. Big 12-2 may get some extra cash while they work on strategy for the next time this comes around

I guess CU gets the Pac10 into another market, but realistically there's no reason to believe they will be anything more than an also-ran, battling washington state for the bottom of the conference ladder. At least in the Big12, they had ISU and Baylor to look down on once in a while.

I see the "other five" Big 12 schools as relative winners. first of all I think schools like KU, KSU, Missou deserve to be in major conferences. They just found out the value of their athletic programs and it wasn't good. They didn't fit into the plans of the other major conferences and were almost left without a home. While the overall Big 12 is somewhat diminished, these other schools get a reprieve by remaining in a major conference and more money to boot.

Does anyone think that the B12 actually resolved any of their issues that drove other teams to look around? Paying off Mizzou will work momentarily although in year 10 of this 18 year contract they'll again be claiming pauper status when other conferences are renegotiating mega-deals.

Does Mizzou have a choice? was going to the Big 10 or PAC10 an option for them or were they a step away from being left without a conference?

no it doesnt, it loses a little stature but not much. they are going to lose some of their recruiting in texas. they will not be able to compete in the east recruiting against ohio st., mochigan and penn st. they will be stuck with more stiff recruitiung requirements. they will get their 25 million a year but i expect nebraska to have the athletic relevance of indiana or illinois in the big 10 in 4 years.

"The choice for them was the MWC or being UT's *****"

Would they really be better off in the MWC? I really don't know - I'm asking. I can't believe that financially that would be the case. With a new TV deal, I think all remaining teams are better off. If being "UT's *****" is a deal breaker for them, then it probably is better for them to be a big fish in a small pond, but it would be at the expense of a lot of money I'd think. I think Mizzou thought they'd be a natural companion for NU going to the Big10 and ultimately found out they are not as wanted as they believed.

Nebraska had a good year last season, but the glory years are a thing of the past. They've been stuck in the mud for quite a while and it's probably good for them that they made this move when they could. I agree with general35 and others that feel they are destined for even more pronounced mediocrity.

"From what I can tell nearly all NU fans are ecstatic about the change." There are about 5000 Neb fans in the DFW metroplex that think its sucks. Depends on where you sit. I didn't have a problem with it. I did with old man Osborne trying to throw UT under the bus. Whoever fired Solich was responsible for Nebraska's problems. Not the revenue share, Neb was all for that until they sucked.... Now the question is, will your fans be as ecstatic if you struggle thru a few 6-6 seasons in the Big10 and are still considered an outsider. If OhSt , Mich, and even NW think of Neb the way Neb thought of Texas. Tom may be long gone ( I hope not) before Neb gets their footing or develops any rivalries (ala Arkansas) to enjoy. Texas knows what its like to change conferences and didn't want to start all over again in the Pac16 if at all possible. Aggie almost made them

I don't think so. The new Big Ten will be solid for years to come. The old Big XII will turn into the old Southwest Conference. I think the decision to keep the Big XII was dumb. I think this will hurt Texas recruiting.

As far as recruiting - no kid ever signed a letter because he wanted to play Nebraska or Colorado in the snow. Hell, half the kids I know couldn't even point to either state on the map. Texas kids come because it's Texas. If anything it's getting to play OU on a big stage and the chance to win all of em. I think it silly to think a kid with lots of stars by his name is going to pick a school primarily on conference. Kids pick schools, there are no loyalties to conferences.

Nebraska is only better than Tech because Tech fired Mike Leach, and you are claiming that their departure will kill the conference. Okay.

    This is not 2001.

I have talked to 4 friends who are NU fans from different parts of my life. They all feel that NU made a huge mistake going to the Big 10.
