don't like the sounds of this. national top 10 type studs from austin don't come along that often (exception of GG of course). though he is one of those day 1 offers in Feb, an early commit this year could only be bad for us. could we possibly miss out of the top 3 players in the state next year with all the momentum of the prior 3 classes? (jones to um, david to tech, grey to somewhere else IF we get brown this year?). obviously lots of time for all 3 of those guys, and grey does seem to like us a lot irrespective of brown.. but just sayin...

thinking about 2012 recruits... this is what we get for locking up 2011 so early [IMG]

definitely early to worry.. but we will have a small classes with the last few large classes by mack standards. word today is that cayleb has miami out by far due to the family connections to coach shannon. derek david, being the best defensive HS recruit muschamp has seen is no lock with grade concerns and his ties to tech (not to mention current commit). jonathan grey will be a battle... though on the bright side that's probably because we'll land brown this year, which is what i'm hearing with pretty good confidence the last few days. not to mention curtis riser manchild OT isn't leaning our way despite the desoto pipeline and malcomb brown (DT) isn't leaning our way despite the brenham pipeline. that may be your top 5 propects in the state next year. we're set up for a "down" year next year in recruiting, though we've been spoiled rotten the last few. getting ASJ and Brown this year will be cherry on the top of another top 2-top3 ranked class. who cares? you apparently for clicking this thread. i'm providing premium info for discussion, because the 2011 class is all but done. if it's not welcome, i'll go to a more welcoming forum to post in the future. [IMG]

Jones may like the U right now because of daddy's ties to Miami and Coach Shannon, but there's still plenty of time for Mack to bring out the snake oil, and besides, Jones says he plans to make as many Horn games this coming season as he can. That doesn't sound like to me he's writing us off this early. I'm betting he warms up nicely to the idea of being on the other end of some Garrett Gilbert passes.

i think you're right. we'll be in till the end on jones. the surprising news was that he was not the lock everyone thought based on prior comments and of course being from austin. a year of watching GG tear it up and da U stink it up in the ACC should set him straight.

As far as quarterbacks go this is a no brainer. Gilbert has a gun and all the projections point to a stellar career. He'll make all his wideouts stars. Jacory Harris, the qb for miami, has an arm that makes bucky richardson's look strong. I don't know how much longer Harris will be there but he's a terrible qb imo. The thought of this guy being a heisman candidate is sickening. I just watched miami/ou 09 and if he got it to a receiver that guy got popped because the ball took forever to get there .If Jones goes there he better be able to take a hit.

Won't Harris be a senior when Jones would be a true freshmen. Maybe we should be looking at their QB recruits for last year or this current class.

harris is a nonfactor. they got a kid bridgewater committed this year.. and if i remember right the two have hit it off already.

I'd love to get this kid, but we're so deep at WR it wouldn't be a gut punch if he went east. Better than OU or aTm. Personally I'd rather sign a stud OL or DB.

And hometown/state isn't that big of a deal for HS students today. If it was, we wouldn't have gotten Cobbs & Hicks.

cayleb is a great player, and he has great parents. regardless of the relationship between robert and randy, i think the family will prudently weigh the options. obviously i think the best situation is texas, but cayleb will have good information with which to make a decision. i think he will see that texas is the best for him in the short term as well as the long term.

Like our chances? Despite the glaring links Jones has to the U and the fact that David has, like, already COMMITTED to Texas Tech. It's the worst chances we've had at the top 3 prospects in half a decade.

next year will be interesting. if we can't pull jones and david, we may have a more national looking class than in years past. we're already looking heavily at brewer out of arizona for QB, who is a stud, as well as a pair of defensive studs out of alabama in kwon alexander and trae elston. i love the shift in the national recruiting to get the best texas guys and the cherry pick a few national stars.

Seriously, with a whole junior and senior season to play, who really is going to be the top 3 prospects in the state in 2012? How many of you, honestly, ever heard of Steve Edmond this time last year?

HD: I'm not crushed right now either. I'm saying our chances are far lower than usual and I'm less upbeat than I normally would be. But to say "I like our chances" for next year just doesn't really make sense, because there's very little positive information coming in for us. Actually, there's no positive information. But I see your point and have confidence we can rebound as well.

pevo?: I think most people knew who Edmond was, but your point holds that the top 3 certainly could change. I think most people feel that the top 3 is more set in stone this year than most, with somewhat of a gap between Gray, Jones, David and the rest.

I care, but i certainly don't lose any sleep over what a HS kid decides to do. I trust our staff to do a good job recruiting them and if they want to come and their parents want them to come to UT, they will. I respect the ones that don't and I'm grateful for the ones that do.

Somebody may have said that about GG. Does that make it right or even feasible in any way? If you were worried about Brown to Bama, you were one of the few. The very, very few. He's been a lock to UT for months now.

The only lock I know is my ex wife and her effect on my finances. It's a lock when Malcolm says it is.... Anything else is storybook crystal ball reading grandstanding

Actually, tholly, Brown to commit is guaranteed. Brown to stay committed is what we have to worry about.
