    The Link

Bob Inglis, a sensible Republican with a solid conservative record and traditional values is voted out of office, in part, because he refuses to call Obama a socialist and asks people to turn off Glenn Beck. The thought of the nutcases described in this article controlling Congress, or those supported by these nutcases controlling Congress, is troubling. And like Inglis, I think the GOP's embrace of the tea party and their wacko beliefs will backfire in the long run. I pray that American voters have enough sense to not give these lunatics power.

Bob Inglis got voted out because he sided with Obama and the dems in opposing the surge in 2007, because he voted for the bailout and because he goes around insulting his constituents and siding with the left against them. He wants to blame the vitriol in politics on his own team. And then he wonders why he got voted out.

He got voted out because the people voting hold views like this:

Tell me more about Inglis. From the article it sounded like he is more in the mold of Bush and McCain and relies on "Christian values" and pragmatic compromise. After the election and definitely in today's environment, I don't think that plays well. I would hope the Tea Party is a fiscal conservative movement and in this election fiscal responsibility should trump all other issues. Inglis doesn't seem to fit that role.

Bob sounds like a woman scorned, there's more to the story than him not wanting to call 'O' a socialist. Maybe the people in his district didn't believe in the bailout. Yeah, it's been sooo great [IMG] . Maybe he should have minded his own damn business regarding Joe Wilson. You don't get your *** kicked by 42 points, as an imcumbent, for not wanting to say socialist. But if the short bus theory makes you feel better, have fun.

Pretty funny for him to be whining like this and blaming the tea party of all things. Without knowing too much about the guy just based on his whining I'd say he deserved to be voted out.

Even if what he is saying has some truth to it, it is still a joke. The tea party maybe, maybe makes up 5% of voters? Probably less. This dude got whipped by like 42% points. You can't blame the tea party for that.

Its like losing a football game by 30 points and blaming the kicker for missing extra points.

I said "in part." The bailout saved the economy from disaster. He sounds to be like a principled conservative that uses free market principles and christian values to drive his decision making. Purging people like him from the party will come back to hurt the Republicans. They're really doing their best to destroy their coalition...drive off mexican american, drive off those with christian values who don't buy into fiscal conservative extremism. The GOP is quickly becoming a party of ideologues, extremists, ignorants and nutcases. Is this really who you want leading our country?

Inglis sourgraping in defeat sure accuses a lot of " theys and Thems". He needs to get with John Lewis . Maybe they can come up with some real names. [IMG]

As has been pointed out teh candidate who did win is not chopped liver.

Inglis made the mistake of thinking he was entitled. So sad. [IMG]

3 options here- 1) that is exactly what the majority of people at that meeting told him, and it is being accurately reported by him, or 2) it is an accurate portrayal of what a couple of nuts said but it is being attributed to the entire group by a sore loser, or 3) the group in general disagreed with Obama's left of center economic policies and his use of the executive office to implement these and a sore loser is intentionally misquoting them.

    I'm going with 2 or 3.

Ingis lost because he lives in South Carolina where Republican office holders say things like this:

A South Carolina lawmaker on Thursday called a Republican gubernatorial candidate of Indian descent a "raghead," saying we have one in the White House, we don't need one in the governor's mansion.

Well there's more where this came from:

Rusty Depass is a former GOP state Senate candidate and a former State Election Commission chairman.

The article showed an entry Depass posted on Facebook commenting on a gorilla that escaped from Riverbanks Zoo.

It said, "I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors -- probably harmless

  24. if you still believe that you support a party that isn't completely out of touch then you are probably not out of high school.
ironically, this thread is evidence of the death of reason. the racism angle is particularly pathetic.

Don't forget, SC is where we learned John McCain has non white babies. Here's more:
GOP operative Mike Green posted a racist joke about President Obama on his Twitter account over the weekend -- and in a brief conversation with TPM, Green did not deny it. (Late Update: Green has now admitted it in a new set of Tweets, and apologized. See new section after the jump.)

Green posted this, then deleted it some time later:

JUST HEARD OBAMA IS GOING TO IMPOSE A 40% TAX ON ASPIRIN BECAUSE IT'S WHITE AND IT WORKS.

I overgeneralized and hadn't looked at the other candidate or details of the race. Still, there has been a conscious decision amongst some leaders of the GOP to foment this type of irrational distortions for political gains. At least part of the reason Inglis lost is that being stirred up, and his opponent, regardless of his qualifications for the office, furthered the "Obama is a socialist," "Obama is a radical" myths to win.

On the other side of it, the Dems want to brand the GOP as the party of fringe elements and nutcases. This was a liberal website, so the angle of the article was to play up this aspect of the tea party movement and the GOP base. I worked on a campaign in West Texas, and these types with out there views would frequently turn up. The Obama is the antichrist belief was very common. It doesn't represent the GOP. Still, I maintain that the level of anti-government furor in the tea party is way outside of mainstream Americana, those elements speaking for the Republicans will hurt them in the long run.

Allweather...I'd question who among those are nutcases...but I'll go with the least threatening of them all...Michelle Obama? She's been a very popular first lady and has used her position to push some effective initiatives like her efforts to stem Childhood Obesity. What are you talking about?

Just because someone has different political views does not make them a nutcase. Believing the President of the United States wants to open the border and turn the United States into a Muslim country makes you a nut case. What has Michelle Obama done to classify her as a nutcase? I'm not the one that needs to get a grip here.
