X-Box, PS3 or Wii

OK I've got some outdated stuff and I'm looking to spend less time in front of my PC and more time playing on the big screen. Question is, which to get.

The Xbox elite seems like the best one at first glance. Already have a Blu-Ray so Ps3 doesn't do anything for me on that front. I like the idea of having the kinetic controler ala Wii, and Xbox does have that feature but only on a few games that I can see. But I'm not that impressed with the Wii's game selection.

    Thoughts? Recommendations?

xbox all the way, if only for LIVE. there is nothing on ps3 that isn't also on xbox or something similar. I would only go wii if you have little kids, you will get bored with it rather quickly. ours just sits collecting dust now.

XBox. The Live gaming is unmatched, and still the better overall game selection

It really depends on what you play. Wii's a party console, while XBox is more of a graphics warrior.

I'll say this, if you're getting an XBox for Kinect, just get a Wii. Your game quality is significantly better for those types of games. I especially recommend Punch-Out.

    PS3.

XBox can not compete with Sony on the related areas such as downloading movies via the NetFlix features, Sony Online, Sony Marketplace and more.

The games are a wash between Xbox and PS3.

And lastly, all of us, including myself, are probably biased because we are going to recommend the system we have and are familiar with. I like my PS3, and like the NetFlix features that I don't think Xbox has.

Good input - my thing is that I already have Netflix and Blu-Ray as it is. So those features from PS3 are pretty meaningless, at least right now. Having said that, who knows, a bigger house, a second TV, maybe at some point it becomes a thing.

I think for me it's boiling down to game selection. Which one is going to have the best choices. Bearing in mind I'm not a big first-person shooter guy, for those who own one already, have you ever found yourself saying "man, I'm ticked that my console won't play (insert game here)?"

    All the time on games.

What kind of games do you like. That can answer this dilema quick.

Wii is only for kids 8 and under. It's ok for the occasional party game, but that's it.

PS3 and XBox are so similar on many levels that it basically comes down to game choice and controller type. I personally have been using the Sony controllers since the original PlayStation in 1999, so it would be tough for me to transition. Every time I have tried to play XBox, my fingers don't respond the way I've been accustomed to.

If that's not an issue for you, it comes down to game choice. Each console has something that the other doesn't, and even though I have a PS3, I'm jealous of some of the Microsoft offerings. I guess the quick answer would be to just get both [IMG]

Wii games are incredibly fun and playable (as you would expect from a Nintendo system).

However, I like to sit on my rear on the couch (not stand up and swing my arms) and play games with great depth and stunning, eye-popping graphics. Thus, I own an XBox 360. You simply cannot compare the graphic capabilities of the two systems.

Wii is great for kids. PS3 otherwise. You just can't beat the price point and what you get for it.

Really don't understand the Wii for kids only comments.

Wii is an awesome platform for what it's worth -- old school platforming with nice twists (Mario, Zelda), party games (pretty much any of the Wii specific software), and non team sports i.e. Boxing, Golf, Racing, etc. Best possible substitution for the feel of swinging a fist or a club.

Between XBox360 and PS3, with the rare exception of MGS4, XBox360 has better game selection.

I have a PS3 and a Wii. My teens play a bit more on the PS3 and we use it for a blue ray player. I personally like the Wii for games. I am not a typical gamer and like a simple interface not 50 buttons to press. If you like old style arcade and simple, Wii. If you need a blue ray player and some games, PS3.

I have played xbox. Its good as well. they are all pretty good. I personally would choose PS3 over Xbox.

I agree with what mcbrett said. Plus the PS3 controllers are much more user friendly. The Xbox controllers are too bulky.

Exactly. This is why it's for people who can handle the "jump" button for Mario, or the "swing your arm randomly" move for Tennis. It's a kids/party platform. You're kidding everyone if you think Madden on Wii is just as good as Madden on PS3/XBox.

Gamers don't even include Wii in the discussion. Might as well get a Nintendo DS.

We have all three current gen systems. I recommend, if you're only looking to get one, get the Xbox 360. Especially if you already own a Blu-Ray player.

McBrett's post.... well, either he's on drugs or he just doesn't like you, because the 360's online content is as good or significantly better as anything the PS3 has to offer. The only advantage the PS3 has over the 360 in the online realm is that it's free online play. Well, you get what you pay for.

I also think the 360 has better exclusives than the PS3. But if you're not into shooters, you might feel differently. Here's a list of console exclusives, take a look at it and see if anything sways you one way or the other. The Link

not the point mcbrett...you just outright made things up...there wasnt factual content there

an opinion is fine, saying you dont like the controller for one of the consoles is fine, some people prefer the feel of one or the other

but to say that PS3 has better online content is basically 100% false. They have made up a lot of ground on the 360 though.

mcbrett, I believe he was referring to the point you made about netflix etc... 360 had netflix support long before it was added to the ps3. 360 also supports facebook and last.fm as well and will soon have espn3. i'm pretty sure that last one is exclusive too. plus many games that appear on both systems (mw2, gta4 etc) may not be exclusive games, but 360 has exclusive downloadable content that either is not on ps3 or comes out much later.

i have all 3 systems btw and only one isn't covered with dust currently...

"360 also supports facebook and last.fm as well and will soon have espn3"

So do Internet browsers, just like the one on PS3.

Anything "exclusive" to XBox is exclusive because it's named something else on PS3 or PC or wherever else you download it. Like the map packs for FPS games... they're called something like "FATA1ITY PACK" on XBox and just named "map pack 2" on PS3. There's no difference and it's not "exclusive," unless it's one of the games that is only on XBox.

the map packs are time exclusive, as in we got them a month or two before you. but the gta expansions are exclusive, you cannot get the lost & the damned or the ballad of gay tony on ps3.

for the 'web browser' stuff, i would use my laptop for that if i wanted to use those things in a web browser. the 360 has them integrated into the system so you can access them while you are doing other things.

also not mentioned about either system is the ability to access media (mp3's, divx video's) from a networked pc, which is possible on both systems as far as i know and is totally awesome. i download movies to a spare drive on my pc and them share it with my xbox. wii however, can't do this
