posted on the texas 247sports website. Here is Bobby Burton's twitter post: Hookem247.com is the first to report that basketball player Varez Ward is transferring from the #Texas. 8 minutes ago via web
Dam...if true, maybe this is the reason. From his twitter.. "dnt think my knee will be a 100% ready by the start of the season so if it take sitting out again I guess thats what i got to do "
I think its doubtful he was able to get back to 100% in this past 10 months, probably will be a while for him to get back to that level, if he's ever able to. Probably felt he wouldn't be able to get minutes with Joseph, Brown, Balbay here this year and then(hopefully)Kabongo, Lewis, and McLellan coming in next year.
Ah, I really liked Varez. Sad to see him go and hope he fully recovers and excels wherever he lands. Texas basketball right now ... man, things are looking kinda glum.
Good luck to Varez. This was a good business move for him. He was NOT going to contribute that much this year as his injury is an extremely difficult one to recover from. He was also already getting recruited past with Julien Lewis and Sheldon McClellan being committed.
Star Telegram said he was transferring to Auburn. That means he would have to sit out a year which would give him time to heal. Staying at UT wouldn't give him that extra year. Sounds like a smart move, though I hate to see him go. Hook'em!!!
I dont live in Austin so i couldnt see the news, but im not suprised he is going to Auburn. Ward was heavily recruited by then UTEP coach Tony Barbee who took the Auburn job after the NCAA tourney.
Could this be a homesick thing too?? Either way, good luck Varez. I'll never forget his performance vs. Duke in the tourney 2 years ago.
That was a great game he played against Duke. If it's true about his injury needing more time to heal and his Mother not doing well, then all the best to you Varez. Enjoyed watching you.
Too bad - I thought he added a lot to the mix, but if the knee won't hold up, there's not a lot you can do! Good luck to him!
I wish Varez all the best. I also wish he hadn't gotten hurt -- he was one of my favorite players. Best of luck, Varez, and Godspeed!
