www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7678578&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat95100050006&id=1134702961875 I am looking at this tv. It has a ~30hr HD built-in DVR. Obviously, I cannot watch another channel while recording but that is rarely an issue. I prefer this over paying another monthly service (TiVo or TWC DVR). Any reviews on these type? Can I buy a standalone DVR recorder to avoid TiVo and TWC DVR?
Tivo and the cable/satellite providers are the only standalone DVR's out there. As for the avoiding the monthly fee, if you look at that tv and compare it with one without the built in DVR, you'll find that you are better off paying the fee for the proprietary one (the Tivo HD cost like $800 so unless you want it's functionality, it isn't a better deal). Also, I have used one tv with the built in DVR and the one I used did not record HD, despite the TV being HD. So check that out.
Seems like one more thing to break that would be hard to replace. Whats the lifespan of the average DVR hard drive?
I've had 2 Sony SAT-T60 Tivo DVRs running nonstop since 2001, so either I'm very lucky or that UPS is worth every penny.
Lucky Goldstar a.k.a. GoldStar a.k.a. Crap a.k.a. LG it's not a good set, ask a television salesperson like the poster here who works at A&B or go to AVSforums...LG is nort a high quality brand
yeah, if I got it I would def. get an extended warranty, that way if their like Circuit City and it breaks 3 times you can get something else.
Wouldn't touch it. If you are trying to stay in the sub 2000 range look at the Samsung HPS4253 much better panel. Then get a DVR thru your provider, it will probably wash out in the long run, but it will be much easier to use, as well as much better picture then the LG. If you are in Austin and want a deal on the Samsung unit send me a pm
