It's a crapshoot sometimes. What was Miami ranked and how well were they doing when Ohio State scheduled them? I am pretty sure the answer is, "not so good". When OU scheduled Cincy they were not that good either. You just don't know sometimes. What if FSU lays an egg and loses 3 games this year? What if they fall out of the polls? What then for the Sooners SOS? Were we supposed to play Arkansas again this year in Wyoming's spot? I forget how that arrangement was to work.
The sooner people realize that we're going to lose a few games the sooner we can stop worrying about SOS.
With what Belmont has done in recent months by scheduling series with ND, USC, BYU and others, I have no complaints any longer.
Stat, I love the added bit to the NC story in that when we scheduled them they had Mack Brown as their coach. When we played them he was our coach.
That's what I was thinking. Isn't Wyoming the replacement for Arkansas? We had to find somebody quickly when Arky bailed.
I liked playing Wyoming. Their fans are fun and the school has more cache than someone like LA Tech or USF.
We have the worst of both worlds. The cupcake game late in the year can only hurt us in a tie breaker. If only we had it this week instead.
Have any of you watched the first two games?!? After seeing that do you really worry about ******* SOS? Clearly this is a rebuilding year. Doesn't mean we will suck. Mack's rebuilding years get us 10 wins usually. Doesn't mean we need to have an eye on Glendale though. Vegas has noticed. We are only 3 point favorites over a Tech team that had to hold off a final drive by SMU at home and could only convert 50% of 3rd downs against a NM team that got beat by 72 in its opener.
Maybe Belmont could schedule every team on Boise State's schedule, would that make you happy? They are in the national championship game in all likelihood.
Its always going to be a crapshoot as long as you pick teams 5-7 years out. For all we know USC will be horrible by the time we play them after sanctions and Kiffins have run their course. I don't know when OU scheduled FSU and Cinn, but if it was the typical 4-5 years ago timing, neither were very good. I think Cinn won 4 games in 2005 and FSU was in a funk of 7-6 years for awhile around that time. I love the Maryland and Wyoming moves. It gets us away from the LaTech's of the world and makes for great road trips. Still upset I did not make the trip to Laramie.
Two seasons ago OU was one of (in most everyones mind) the most dominant teams in the history of college football (at least in the minds of many). We went into the OU game with most of our entire fan base thinking we would be blown out and we came out a winner. That year things clicked for us. I am not sure this team will have that success, but I think we will continue to get better each week. If we can get to the OU game undefeated (and I think we should) anything can happen. Last year Alabama did not look very dominant for several games but they had enough to get by. Before people give up on this team lets see how they do. Yes we could lose 2 or 3 games, but this team could also win the conference (something that we can't do if we lose 2 or 3 games).
