Mike Davis appears to be a playmaker. 7 catches, 104 yards. Goodwin has potential, and needs to play, a lot, but dang, he dropped the perfectly thrown longball. Davis seems to ignite the O, and gets the whole team going. Hopefully Davis gets a lot more time on the field. Davis, Malcolm and Goodwin would be good.
Well, no -- obviously Chiles and Kirk have done some good things. But are they playmakers? I mean, I hope so. I'll tell you what, I think it would be good if we found a playmaker before we hit UCLA > OU > NU. Davis has the look to me.
Davis is special and seems to have a good connection with Gilbert. Speaking of which, the latter needs to predominantly stay in the gun. It's obvious that he is much more comfortable there than under center.
All spots are supposedly open for competition with nobody getting a guarantee, right? If so, Davis deserves at least a strong look for a start. Unless there is something really lacking in practice, that did not affect him today, he may just deserve that start next game.
I have to be honest, I didn't even really know who this kid was before tonight. Consider him firmly planted on my radar screen now. Take a bow, Mr. Davis, you deserve a starting spot.
Didn't Mack's comments at the end of the game indicate that Chiles and Goodwin got a little dinged up, so they had to go with the young guys? From what I saw, Davis just moved ahead of all the other receivers with the exception of Malcolm Williams (who has not dropped a pass this year). We play enough receivers that Chiles (who has looked better than ever this year), Kirkendal, and Goodwin will still see the field plenty. Davis is special, and the Gilbert/Davis connection will be a key to our success for the next 3 years.
they threw at him all night - don't worry whether he starts or not. he was our main target, what else can you ask for. he will get his PT
zebras stole Darius White's touchdown if you ask me Gilbert's accuracy is going to continue to get some of our receivers hurt stretching out for it.
GG's dad and Mike Davis's dad went to college together and their brothers are friends. Also, they will live together and both talk like they are from Dillon, Texas.
Mike Davis is moving up intot he starting spot. It may not happen this week but it will very soon the way he is playing. That says quite a bit for a true frosh coming in behind the veteran group of WRs we currently have. Am I the only one that thinks Davis would do well on Punt Returns? Guys has great hands, great moves, and lightning bolt speed. We need a playmaker back there already. Monroe needs more touches as well. They need to find a way to get him more involved. Perhaps they could use him as a WR and run as that motion around guy who takes a pitch every now and again. We need to get all the playmakers on the field very soon.
I saw where Davis was in on 38 plays last night. That's a good number. Now it's up to Davis to earn the confidence of his QB. I don't think that will be a problem:
Davis played very well. Who starts is irrelevant it is who gets the most touches. We will use a rotation of 5-6 receivers. I like the way they are using Chiles against the LBs. He is much faster than them but he has the body size to take hits over the middle.
He's only played two games, but Mr. Davis has already shown why Rivals rated him the fourth-best prospect at his position nationally, the fourth-best overall in the state of Texas, and No.34 overall nationally.
I went to both open practices and noticed Davis' body language on the field at all times, how he carried himself. I know just a little of the Alexander Techniques -- related to ballet, but it has to do with the power of an individual evidenced in his posture and body language. I felt Mike Davis has "it" on those terms alone. He just moved around successfully on the field. Watching all the players in a sea of orange, Davis stood out in a particular way he carried himself; you could see him taking command of whatever was going on with himself. Frequently he would drop and do push-ups. On his own account. He seemed to have a "hair on fire" attitude, ready to leap tall buildings in a single bound. I reckoned him as a playmaker of the year who was going to turn a lot of heads. I thought Berryhill stood out in practices as a player who brings a lot of attitude. Keep looking for him to get into a game. Starting or not, Davis fits into the scheme from now on, I'd have to imagine.
Love what he was doing out there. I had been reading pre-season from "insiders" that it wouldn't take long before he played and played alot, guess they were right. Also happy with Chiles so far. He looks better than he has in the past. Goodwin just needs to hang on to those drops.
My dad and I picked Mike Davis as our favorite player on offense after watching him in one of the open practices. When he made the catch that he brougt in for a TD, the old man and I said "that's our guy" and high five'ed when Mike was 20 yards from the end zone.
