How do I fix my ceiling fan?

A while back, the speed control got messed up. It's supposed to be the following when you pull the cord:

    0. Off
    1. High
    2. Medium
    3. Low

    Now all I get is

    0. Off
    1. Off
    2. High
    3. Low

Do I need to track down a replacement speed switch? What else could be wrong?

It's a Harbor Breeze from Lowes, which I understand is a cheap house brand, so I may be out of luck.

Replacing the switch is a fairly cheap way to try it out if you can find one. If that's not it, it's probably ready for the dumpster.

Assuming high is a combo of low and medium, since you have high and low it would seem that one of the contacts in the switch is bad. Three speed switch is commonly available, only trick is changing the wires, which are pushed into a friction connector. Simply requires pushing something like a tiny screwdriver into the slot that releases the connector.

If it isn't a special one I would probably switch it out. I know that's not the thrifty answer.

Lowe's has parts for ceiling fans in that department-I don't know about switches, but that would seem to be a common thing. If you lie down on the floor and start shaking, an employee might eventually spot you, and you can ask.
Actually, I am thinking more of Home Depot. At Lowe's you can actually find someone at times.

Why not just install a rheostat at the wall switch and you'll have infinite speed adjustment.
