Yeah, I know that there is another forum.
I remember the latest basketball season, it seemed Texas had a large group of great athletes, who could possibly become great players.
For so many games, they seemed to be lone players. Then for about 2 or 3 games they seemed to be becoming a team. Then of course, came the "what is that thing down there with a net hanging on it?" period end of good season. (what good is 85 rebounds on a single trip down the court?).

I get a kind of uneasy feeling about the football team this year. I worry that I think of the basketball team when I see them play. I know that Texas has a group of highly thought of players. I don't just depend on the scouting reports. I can see that they are good.
Still I worry that I remember the BB team.

    I am optimistic so,

    HOOK EM

So you think that a team of football players coached by Mack Brown and Will Muschamp could possibly start to think too much of themselves and become a group of me-first individuals who don't give a **** about the team as long as they get their highlights played on SportsCenter? Is that what you're trying to say, because that's basically what the basketball team was last year. Anyway, not possible with our coaching staff, or this group of football players.

I'd be worried too if Mack was more concerned with putting players in the NFL than winning championships.

Why is it that Longhorn fans can't be ridiculously positive about our team? I just don't get it. Texas has won 10 games for 9 years in a row, but the sky is always falling. The Longhorns have only lost 3 games in the last 1000 or so days. We're loaded with talent and, while they've made some questionable decisions over the past few years, our coaches have delivered. Basically the only reason that we haven't won the last 2 MNCs was bad luck and little more. Yet we still get posts like the OP all of the freaking time.

I don't really expect this team to run the table, but they could. It wouldn't even be that far fetched to see it happen if a few chips fall our way. Jeez, have you folks ever played organized football? I did for several years and I can tell you that a win is a win no matter the score or how you played. It's not easy to win all of the time, even against the bad teams. Why can't you guys (the worriers) just be happy with what we have and enjoy it? It's been a fun ride for me and with they way we've recruited, it looks like we'll be enjoying the success for a while to come.

    Wow 2far, my sentiments exactly!
When the Horns beat aggy ONCE in the 11 games 1984-1994, I never thought I would see this excellence & success again.
It's unbelievably satisfying (for me) to be confident that the team will win 10 games every year.
IF tceh beats us Saturday, Mack's record will be 9-4 against them.
I think late Saturday night that record will be 10-3. [IMG]

the difference between basketball and football - the coaches. don't get me wrong, i like barnes and i think he is a good coach. but mack and co. have put in the work and have gone through the hard times, i.e. all those years we were losing to OU, colorado in the B12CG, k state, ucla, arkansas. he's gone through all the doubt and criticism and this team is consistently good because of the mindset the coaching staff has established at texas. that and there's no shortage of veteran leaders on any given year - it's not the same for basketball where you get the elite players for a year or 2 at the most and the team is always turning over.

I agree with the OP. If we can't hit our ******* free throws we're not even going to make the Alamo Bowl...

I remember not too long ago when a lot of people thought Rick Barnes was a better coach and getting more out of his program than Mack Brown. You don't hear too much of that lately.

I think they are both fantastic coaches and we are privileged to have them.

The dynamics of the two sports are so different that the comparrison makes no sense. I would say that we need leaders to step up and some very young guys to get some more game time, but otherwise, I'm absolutely optomistic about my Longhorn football team.

The football team has not really started out all that great.....

So many things that I disagree with in the op.

Mack is a top 3 coach in the country hands down without an argument.

Rick is a top 10 coach. Unfortunately many of our fans are so clueless when it comes to basketball. But then again, many of our football fans are just as clueless so go figure....
