Clearly, the best player to wear no. 60 for UT, Tommy Nobis

This should be the illustrated definition of goal-line stand.

Of all the numbers, IMO, 60 might carry the most weight. Nobis, Treadwell, Leiding, Britt Hager, Brian Jones, Robin Sendlein et al. I’m sure I’m missing some, and there are several other “good” numbers, but 60 is pretty good.

^^^ I think a few other players wore it once in a game. I'm a little fuzzy on who but Derrick Johnson comes to mind, maybe Ty Allert, Tyson King, someone else I cannot recall?

Can I get a lifeline on this one?

Here is another iconic photo of Nobis vs. Alabama Jan. 1, 1965 Orange Bowl that I found in my file.

Tide had 1st and goal and Horns had an EPIC goal line stand that preserved a hard fought 21-17 vicktree! :hookem:

Look at Nobis's right hamstring and the bulge in the back of that leg. It doesn't match his left leg. That looks unnatural or is it part of another player that I can't see? No. 37 was getting a good piece of the action too!!!!

… watching Darren Lewis score in a 28-27 victory over the Aggies in 1990.
The win wrapped up a10-1 regular season (our only blemish was an early-season loss to Colorado) during the “Shock the Nation” campaign. Mark Berry saved our bacon with a stop of Lewis on a two-point attempt to seal the win and get the Aggie monkey off our backs; for the time being. Clearly McWilliams high-water mark, as Miami loomed in the Cotton Bowl.

The Miami Cotton Bowl and 1989 Baylor game (lost 50-7) were the two worst games I ever attended. Thankfully, my daughter getting sick on the trip to Austin saved me from witnessing the 1997 Route 66 game against UCLA.

I woke up sick the day of Rout 66 (terrible sore throat) and went to game regardless. At some point in 2nd half, my girlfriend and I left, and I had to puke in the trashcan underneath the stadium by the north end zone. Folks walking by (leaving the game early too) assumed I drank too much before the 11 am game.

The best seat I ever had (3rd row upper deck 45 yard line) were for the worst game I ever witnessed; 0-30 thrashing against UH 11/5/76.
Closely followed by the 1978 Cotton Bowl.

I remember when that play started I thought damm what a great call, he's going to walk in. But then here comes big Stonie and friends out of nowhere and the rest is history, one of those plays that will never be forgotten.

And a bunch of credit goes to #40 (forgotten who it was) who stayed at home and forced the runner to the inside where Clark could make the stop.
