How is the bracket determined? We seem to have gotten the much tougher half.
Bracket is set from very beginning of tournament. Texas is 13 seed and is now in regular slot for fifth seed and is playing Arkansas the four seed. Florida is one seed, Tech is nine seed and is now in Georgia's spot for 8th seed. NCAA actually seeded this side of bracket to be an all SEC party in Omaha but the Big XII busted that party up (with an assist from the ACC and Ohio Valley who actually beat Ole Miss and Georgia). Like the basketball brackets there is no reseeding after each round.
That said, the strongest team thus far has been Oregon State who are on other side of bracket. Texas has seen Arkansas and Texas Tech already and Florida has not been a dominant one seed. The Texas side of bracket is wide open with Arkansas the likely favorite but any of four teams advancing would not be a surprise.
Here’s how Florida advanced in the bottom of the 11th inning vs Auburn. That poor AU outfielder had his glove on it and it bounced over the wall. Brutal way to lose.
Why are both unranked teams in same bracket?
I agree. I would much rather be on this side than the side with the two Pac12 teams.
Can you not read? Your question was answered in full.
Austin Super Regional Game 3 Presser
That is brutal
Baseball is a cruel game.
Interesting to see how the seeding played out, 4 of the national seeds made it to Omaha, 2 more of the top 16 seeds made it to Omaha, a regional two seed and a regional three seed made it. Washington making it to Omaha is the equivalent of a 9-12 seed making it to the elite 8 in basketball.
huh, must be either old age or lack of experience. I have a lot of trouble following that interactive bracket. Can't make heads or tails of how it works.
Thankfully, the printable bracket makes a lot more sense to me.
anyone know the odds of winning the CWS for each team in the field??
Take a look at this post by Scipio Tex at BC on the odds
well, we can all take N Carolina out of the equation in a hurry since the ACC hasn't won since Honus was a youngster! surprised we are rated that high, but guess tradition (and experience) counts for something
although the Beavers do look enticing!
I didn't realize UVA dropped out of the ACC, not to mention FSU, Sons of Klem, and the convicts.
However, if you are telling me that Honus Wagner is still alive, then I'll consider selling my autographed baseball my grandfather gave me, because he is apparently going to outlive me.
In fairness, Virginia's win was the first time the ACC had won since the 60s or something like that.
Some shots from twitter of opening ceremony:
North Carolina leads Oregon State 4-1 in the 3rd
OSU’s starting pitcher was yanked after hitting 3 batters
Beavers ain't quit
I saw OSU against LSU. I didn’t think they looked that good but obviously just one game.
Or St 6
Do you think we might start shugart given his performances lately?
I think Nolan Kingham is scheduled to start today, but everyone will be available.
No chance that anyone except Nolan starts today.
I can't help but hope that Beau Ridgeway makes a meaningful appearance (or two) this week-if he even made the trip!
First Day scores:
UNC 8 Oregon State 6
Mississippi State 1 Washington 0
Day Two Scores
Arkansas 11 Texas 5
Texas Tech 6 Florida 3
Oregon State and Washington play in losers bracket today while Mississippi State and UNC play in winners bracket game.
