" .... I have talked about this before on the site, but I’ll reiterate that it is very early on. At this time last year Texas had 1 commit and that was Justin Watkins. Texas did not look to be leading in any race they eventually won. It wasn’t until March, April, or May that things began to pick up. Even then it may take longer" -- Baizer

Wasn't aware, but if true not pursuing would be the best course of action.

Are you not familiar with 247sports? I can't help you then. It's one of the Big 3 sites for football recruiting. https://247sports.com/

Missin, just because they are one of the Big3 doesn't mean they know squat.

The question was "what is this list and who compiled it?" The answer is the 247 composite. It's very well known.

How accurate are the rankings for the different sites? I don't know. But the question was "who."

Caveat emptor for anyone thinking a player outside of a state's UIL equivalent (except IMG, but including Bishop Gorman) grades on par with those inside. In Texas there are two private schools in the UIL - Dallas Jesuit and Strake Jesuit in Houston.

Thank you or your response, but I still don't know "who" they are, which would tell me why or how much credibility I should give them, if any at all.

Do they actually watch the kids play? Do they watch film? If so, how much? Are they "pay for play"? How much to get my kid three stars?

"Joe Baxter. who is that? Nebraska offered, give him 3 stars"

Can't understand why anyone pays for their "insider information".

    Sabre,

I like 247 best of the recruiting. I dislike Rivals the most. They don't seem to update their info very often. You can go there and see where a recruit closed down his search and committed. Rivals 3 weeks later wont have it updated. I also disagree with their ranks often and tend to like 247 much better.

    35,

Thank you. Which is Bobby Burton's group? Who does Chip Brown "spew" for? Does anyone know whatever happened to Max Emfinger?

Honestly, I don't know the guys, which is a bit of a catch-22 on paying for the info. Because I don't pay for info, I don't know who I think it's worth paying attention to. Lol

I like composite rankings because it does take multiple sources into account. They could all be wrong, but it offsets one person over or under valuing a recruit. It might not be the most accurate but it's weighted into a safe list.

There's been some discussion about which recruiting rankings are best, determined by college starts, awards, etc.

The last few years haven't had a lot of private school players at the top of the lists. Maybe this is an exceptional year in that regard.

I agree the Rivals rankings are probably the worst
ESPN individual rankings are not very good either, but I like their top 300
I like the 247 Composite best

Seriously what does the team ranking have to do with how good an individual prospect is?

Here is something interesting from IT about the 2019 in-state class in a section they called 'Bad Apples'

"We won't go too much into detail on this because we don't trash kids, but this class has an inordinate amount of guys with questionable mental evaluations, and I'm not even talking about the flakey kids. One probably needs to be in jail. The others may prove to be 'passes' even though they have a lot of talent. Those kids aren't irredeemable but they may not be good program fits.

If later in the cycle we're dismissive about UT missing on an athletically gifted kid, or if I rank an obviously talented player quite low, feel free to read in between the lines there.

When Texas just flat misses on a talented kid with no red flags, we'll obviously make sure the record is straight on that. This section is no way designed to excuse any misses like that."
