Here we sit in the biggest mess in University history; I believe on the cusp of return to greatness, and Georgia wants our AD. We survived the transcript fiascos of the late 60s, early 70s The school survived the terrorist "invasion" so serious that the administration and Austin FBI office never knew about it, only DC Not sure we can survive losing Chris Del Conte
I know you are a big fan of his, but if he leaves before righting the ship here, do you still hold him in high regard? First I have heard of this.
After the **** he's put up with this week, I wouldn't blame him, and would still hold him up as the best, if no only quality AD in America.
What has he had to put up with? BMDs? Stupid questions from the media? Those are all givens with the Texas job.
He is the best in the country right now, and has one of the worst working environments. He got a $325 million arena built for free He got the the Moody family to pay $150 million for the naming rights That's for starters
What do you mean by "righting the ship"? If he's leaving I don't think his finger prints should be on the next head coach (if there is going to be one). The new guy should be able to bring in his own guy. Just seems like things work better that way. Unless, of course, it's happening today, as a few on here have avowed many times.
Oh well -all 3 sports kinda suck and I was told that wasn’t supposed to happen here. That should be his first metric. Texas “customer” base is huge, so it is pretty easy to raise money.
I'll defer to Sabre, but the Meyer deal seems to have CDC's fingerprints all over it, so if he leaves, does that fall through? If it does fall through, Texas is crewed to 10-15 years of mediocrity continuing. So, by righting the ship, that's exactly what I mean. It will be in terrible shape. But, we at least have a proven head coach for Women's basketball and new facilities. Yay.
Nobody said Chris is leaving, just that UGA is coming after him. After Herman, the summer happenings, Georgia wants to try while we’re down and may be “divided”. while I don’t follow women’s sport’s that closely, let’s not forget Chris’ quick movements to greatly improve women’s basketball and softball. I have friends that have been in oSu and Arkansas athletics for 40 years. Both called me about the Bbb coach. Arkansas told say thanks for getting him out of the SEC, oSu cussing for bringing him to the Big XII. These are examples of how CDC operates when left alone
Overall, CDC has done a solid job. No complaints about him. I hope he stays and keeps up the good work.
Took some time to lurk on a few bulldog sites. Like us they have name drooped a handful of names ( Impressed with their knowledge of AD's) . CDC not among the names dropped.. Hopefully that's a good sign.
What is the appeal of Georgia that would persuade him to leave UT? A higher salary offer would likely be matched in a hurry. I don’t see CDC wanting to leave unfinished business (stadium completion, return football to winning, etc). Anyway, I hope he sticks around for a long time.
I don't want him to leave, but if he does can we get some trade value for him. Say CDC for Kirby Smart?
Sabre, you implied that someone(s) is/are muddying the waters—interfering with cdc getting done what he wants to do. Could you share a bit more info: source of obstruction; what cdc is trying to get done that is being blocked; and why cdc is not being allowed to do his magic? Having the athletic department threatened with a broadside of this magnitude is unwelcome news, to say the least.
Why bother with rumors on CDC? He left a really good job where he was held in high esteem to come to Austin. Georgia is not UT in anything they do (they are little brother to a lot of other teams in the SEC), and then there is Austin and Texas. Texas is taking over as the most populous and economically dominant state in the country. He only needs to drain the swamp to make this the best job in the NCAA. And his peers think he is the one who can do that. So let’s not sell ourselves short. What those hayseeds from GA want and what they get are two different things. Just ask the bulldog. Arf, arf.
