From the looks of things last season, Blair was THE assistant coach during play. She would sit next to Vic on the bench and would often speak to Dad at critical junctures and seemed to be the only assistant Vic listened to during breaks in play.
"The announcement of Schaefer as an assistant coach completes the staff..." Hope all the Anxious Annie's can relax now.
It may have been you or another poster who mentioned this when the assistant coaching positions had first come open. So does make sense.
She was also the "hold him back" person when he was losing his mind with the refs and the Tech coaching staff.
Movement this offseason: Assoc HC Dionnah Jackson-Durrett --> Elena Lovato Assistant April Phillips --> Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton Assistant Calamity McEntire --> Blair Schaefer DBO Blair Schaefer --> Christy Smith Director of Player Development Dom Dillingham --> Sydney Carter Coordinator of Player Development Jaz Holmes --> ??? So has the Coordinator of Player Development position been phased out? Wisdom-Hylton is definitely coaching the bigs, I assume Elena is taking over coaching the wings/SF (again) and Blair working with the guards?
When Johnnie Harris left for a HC position at Auburn and Elena Lovato left for personal reasons, at that time I felt like those were huge losses. But after seeing what Vic and his new staff did again last year I have a different perspective. I no longer see it as losing personnel, but rather them moving on to promotions. I have no doubt whatsoever that the staff Vic has currently assembled is fully capable of keeping things going. The man knows what he's doing. I don't even worry about staff (or recruiting for that matter) anymore. Vic has proven that he will get every ounce out of whatever the roster of players and coaches looks like. Sure, I still get excited over those things but not worried... Not at this point anyway. Can't wait for the season to begin!
As many here guessed, Blair was hired back in the Spring per info obtained through FOIA request. She definitely didn't get any special treatment on her salary.
