The QB coach at State is Cody Dennis. He happens to be Urban's son in law. Ewers mentioned his relationships with Dennis as a major reason to committing to State. And yes Dennis would most likely follow Urban to Texas. So that would certainly stir things up with Ewers.

I really wondered the same kind of thing. Ohio State is stacked at QB. Texas has some quality but I dont think anyone honestly comparing the 2 QB rooms would think Texas is on par with OSU. Just hoping we move on from TH and his no leadership style of insulting the fans and donors. Hit the road jack and dont come back. If they name Meyer, the dominos will fall. Not sure about the current staff but it does appear that Chris Ash has done a good job on D as we are not sucking and actually moving forward. If we could get rid of the flex BS and just focus on playing, I think that would help. If this D had not sucked at LB recruiting, I think this is a formidable D. We are solid on the line but not exceptional, yet. I dont know what to think of the O. Its hard to judge when your QB cannot setup for a pass. I also think our QB has a great heart but not a great arm. He is not Colt McCoy accurate. I must confess watching both he and Charlie Brewer in high school, I wanted Brewer. Shane has had a great couple of years at SMU but not at the same level of competition but he is an exceptional QB. Probably to frail to make it in the league but still solid.

Everytime someone opens the 2022 thread, a little bomb should go off on your screen, with smoldering smoke and stuff.

Agree, Joe Fan should only put info on our worst rated offers cause those are the only ones we have a realistic shot at...

Both tOSU and blow u are already stacked for 2022. With all things trending herman remaining as our head coach we'll have to see if he can gather momentum somewhere. Otherwise we'll finish in the 15-20 range rank like this year.

Agree. Our recruiting will hurt us for years to come unless we get lucky or a big name coach. I think we will be competitive
next year but will get worse in the following years. Something like:
    2021 8-4
    22 7-5
    23 6-6 etc.
    Meanwhile blowU keeps stacking.

    it all depends.
I'm pretty sure I will be dead before we get things turned around by about 2030.

Those records may be generous. Lol. He has us with that already with top 5 classes. Wait until this team is majority 3 and 2 star kids.

Any new coach can recruit hope, direction, wait and see. Just like Herm did the last 3 classes - we need to make a change for that reason alone. Now that pitch is gone if we keep this loser and the new pitch is : come here, don't play for championships, don't get NFL ready, and go just above .500 every year...

Yes indeed. Keep an eye on that Doug Brooks RB/DT for Shiner. Impressive speed for his size. Either an SDE or quickish DT in college. He’s related to our Jonathan Brooks of Halletsville.

He was high on us last year. Has cooled considerably. Smart money is on ou or bama if they offer. We have time to make up the lost ground.

I don't see anyway possible for Texas to make up lost ground since CDC choked... With Herman back, it's the same story and CDC said he doesn't make any coaching decisions till after the season is over so we will be losing another year of recruiting.

I'm so excited to hear Herman talk about how a sophomore center hiked to a Redshirt freshman QB who handed off to a sophomore RB like he did 4 years ago... Excuses will be plentiful next year and we will get our lowest offered commit on just about every recruit next year like we did in this latest class. We should give up on the top 35 in the state of Texas and focus on the 36-100 since that's the only in state kids we really have a shot at and hope OU or A&M doesn't go after them...

We offered 4-star QB Conner Weigman (Cypress Bridgeland) back in Nov (along with Westlak's Cade Klubnik) once Ewers left us
Looks like he can see the whole field, can read coverages and anticipates well
Offers from Auburn, Florida, ou and OkieSt ...

But still a better choice than Bare Alexander which would have caused him to become a UCSC Fighting Banana Slug or maybe a Humbolt St Lumberjack. You cant fight these things

The Stampede: Texas' Top 10 most wanted 2022 in-state prospects

    Austin Westlake QB Cade Klubnik
or Cypress Bridgeland QB Conner Weigman
.... Luckily for Mike Yurcich and Tom Herman, the state of Texas isn’t short on passers. I could have just listed the quarterback position in general here, but it’s likely that Texas is going to find its man in one of Klubnik or Weigman. Neither are ranked as high as Ewers, but the gulf between the group isn’t as wide as you’d anticipate. Texas sits in a good position for both passers with some natural ties. Klubnik is close to home at Westlake, and despite growing up in a family of (aggy) alums, he is fond of Texas and close with Sam Ehlinger. Weigman said on multiple occasions that Texas is a childhood favorite for the dual-sport star. Based on the talent and performances in their junior seasons, Texas wouldn’t go wrong landing either of these passers. Texas recruited this position well under Tom Herman, but there needs to be another infusion of big talent in 2022.

    Klein Cain RB Jaydon Blue
One of the top running backs in the country, Blue had a lot of interest in Texas with what looked like some serious momentum in the summer. In checking recently with a source near the four-star back, I was told there is still considerable interest in the Longhorns by Blue and he was keeping a close eye on the coaching situation with Tom Herman in December. Blue has a great relationship with both Bryan Carrington and Stan Drayton, and assistant running backs coach Brandon Harris has been a factor in this recruitment as well. It speaks volumes that Blue still has a high interest in Texas despite its struggles. The Longhorns will have to take on some heavyweight programs for Blue, but Texas is still very much in the thick of things.

    Frisco Liberty WR Evan Stewart
The priority for Texas is adding dynamic playmaking ability and Stewart shows that in spades. The dynamic deep threat and TikTok superstar seemed like a lock for the Longhorns when Quinn Ewers was on board. Where do things stand now? I was told that Stewart still feels some ties to Ewers, but he’s also still high on Texas. Florida, Oregon, Tennessee and Penn State are other schools I’ve heard about in the mix for Stewart, but Jay Valai has been doing a phenomenal job keeping Texas in it for the big play receiver. Stewart is one of several big targets at the receiver position, but he’s arguably the most important uncommitted target on the board for the Longhorns.

Humble Summer Creek OL Kelvin Banks
Offensive line is a major position of need, and Banks represents one of the top talents in the country. The good news for the Longhorns is that they are likely in the top group for the Houston-area tackle, but the bad news is they will have a tough opponent in (aggy) who are the favorite ... Herb Hand’s back is against the wall following his performance in the 2021 class, and he needs to strike back in a big way in the 2022 group that is talented but has less depth than 2021.

    Arlington Bowie OL Devon Campbell
Texas offered Campbell early and recruited him as hard as anyone since that time. The Longhorns opened a big lead early and almost secured a commitment. Since that time, programs like Oklahoma, LSU and Alabama have been coming on strong for Campbell, but Texas appears to still hold a slight edge. Campbell looks to be a guard at the next level, but his lofty ranking and talented skillset are a must-have for a Texas roster that needs players who can come in and play early up front.

    Duncanville DE Omari Abor
Abor represents some of the highest pro-upside in the state, and he should be a threat to make an instant impact as soon as he reaches college. Where will that be? Texas is definitely in the mix, but the Longhorns sit in third place at best behind Ohio State and Oklahoma. The Sooners have been on Abor longer than Texas and I was told that Quinn Ewers makes it a point to contact him every day on behalf of Ohio State. Fit and development are going to be big for Abor, so Texas can sell the success of Joseph Ossai a bit. Oscar Giles and Chris Ash will have to get creative to land a true difference maker in Abor.

    Cy-Park LB Harold Perkins
Perkins will be a major target for every school in the country, and Texas was early to offer the dynamic Houston athlete. Coleman Hutzler is one of the best recruiters on the Texas staff, and sources tell Horns247 that he’s been doing a great job with Perkins. LSU will be tough to beat, but Texas is at least in position to make a move. The Longhorns will have to slug it out with some of the top programs in the nation for Perkins, but the performance of Hutzler in his first cycle should give Texas fans some confidence when it comes to the recruiting trail.

    North Shore CB Denver Harris
Sources were bullish on Texas and its standing with Harris during the summer, but the intel is a little fuzzier following Texas struggles in the fall. Ohio State and LSU are the programs we continue to hear about when it comes to Harris with schools like Alabama in the mix as well. Jay Valai is working hard to win over the state’s top cornerback, but there is probably some work to be done at the moment.

Plano John Paul II DB Terrance Brooks
Brooks isn’t ranked quite as high as several others on this list, but sources in Austin are high on the potential of the private school safety. When we talked with Brooks during the early fall, Texas was performing as well as anyone in the race for Brooks, and Chris Ash is keeping the pressure up on him. Texas A&M, LSU and Oklahoma are three other schools I’ve heard mentioned for Brooks, and his father Chet Brooks is a former Aggie. Brooks keeps quiet, but Texas is in firm standing and it seems like there could be a ways to go before he pulls the trigger.

    Spearman ATH Brenen Thompson
    OR Lexington ATH Jarred Kerr
Kerr and Thompson are both valued by the staff for different reasons. Thompson’s blinding 10.32 speed is tough to find in recruits, and he could be used as a kick return specialist and a slot receiver with the versatility to play running back too. Kerr is probably more of a straight projection to safety than anything else, but he does have some offensive versatility. Thompson recently released a Top 12 that included Texas. Oklahoma and Alabama are expected to be the biggest competition, and Clemson should make things interesting after just recently entering the race. Texas A&M, Oklahoma and TCU are also expected to be the main sources of contention for the Longhorns for the central Texas athlete.
