Ewers could could / should be gone after next year. I don't know what year Wright's in. Murphy could well hit the transfer portal. You got to take a QB.
Considering the portal and the way Sark's recruited his first two years, I have no problem taking a QB each year. Never can tell when you might find the next Colt or Sam. Heck at this point, a Case would be nice too.
Just saying that Sam was a top 120 4* recruit. Colt might be closer, was the 13th best pro style QB in the class, which is about what Owens is now that they stopped splitting pro/dual in the rankings. So ok, In-state 2024 QB Trey Owens commits to Steve Sarkisian and Texas
It doesn't hurt to have a "project" QB on staff. I'm guessing Wright will leave at some point to find a spot with playing time. Ewers was projected to leave after the 2023 season with Arch heading up the team. He may need more time than originally thought and if Arch pushes him; he could very well portal. I'm not sure what direction Malik will go, especially if he still has 2-3 years of Ewers and Arch in front of him. So, yeah I think taking a QB each year is a good thing.
We could spend a lifetime discussing the merits of 'stars'. Every year I'm reminded how much they really mean when we lose to a team full of 3* players...
I also never get too excited when a kid commits this far in advance. He could change his mind 3x between now and signing day. I wonder if he's related to Spike?
My duaghter goes to school with Trey and we've been to every game the past two years that he has started. He does have an arm but isn't the most fleet of foot. I'm a little surprised Texas is taking him, but it's hard for me to judge his potential given that he hasn't been surrounded by a whole lot of offensive talent at Cy-Fair the past couple of years. And add to the fact that I am in no way qualified to judge high school QB talent or potential .
From reading his bio, I like this kid. And we know when a bio has good info, then the player will be a game changer.
I have seen him play over 10 times in the last two years. He is a pro style QB with somewhat limited mobility, but has a very good arm and at his age will continue to grow and get stronger. I see him as someone that Sark could develop overtime and turn into a very good QB. Good kid from a good family. Plays in a fairly weak district which includes the Spring Branch schools so his stats are somewhat inflated.
Red shirt sophomore. One year at OSU. One year as a longhorn. Next year will be his third year. If he plays really good and Arch is pushing him hard then he could go pro.
I’ve e got my fingers crossed that Arch plays but doesn’t burn a RS. 2023 QE starts and plays 85-99%, Arch comes in for mop up duty keeps his shirt. 2024 QE now a Jr starts, and ARCH is a FR who plays 30%? If QE is dinged- Arch fills in. 2025 QE is now a pro and Arch starts as a SO.
Tape shows he can throw a great deep ball. And all the throws Sark wants. Looks very raw in terms of mechanics but shows some good pocket presence. Good project take after Quinn and Arch. Seems to really love Texas. Let him develop 2 years and then see what you got! Being a 3 star, probably a guy who hangs around and is okay developing for several years before pushing for time. Also not good enough to keep a top 2025 QB from committing to you.
Sounds logical Moondog, but I am not sure QE understands he has to produce in 2023. If he doesn't, the pros will laugh at him and he will have to portal to someplace like Sam Houston or Eastern Washington.
