2025 Recruiting - WBB

I think it's possible that Rori may not come back if Chavez commits here. If Rori leaves, and Chavez doesn't commit here, we might be looking for another point guard in the portal. I think Booker probably prefers playing either shooting guard or forward. I only say that because those positions seem more natural for her size and speed. Of course, I would prefer that we get Chavez, and Rori returns as well.
The world might be ending for me if…..Harmon goes WBNA and Chavez becomes a land thief. For sure Schaefer is in the portal for another point guard in that scenario. The timing of Chavez’s announcement is primarily for her interests. However, is the March 25 date a somewhat courtesy to the losing coaches? It gives them enough time between……their team’s season ending due to defeat in NCAA tourney…..and portal opening in April…..to scour the world for a point guard. Best case….both Harmon & Chavez. Good case…..one or the other. Worst case…..neither. Anyone notice…..only 10 more days to March 25?

According to the Lubbock Avalance Journal , South Carolina is back in the picture.
So there's that.

Frankly I dont think Rori is going to decide based on what Chavez does.
Some people are talking about Rori going to the WNBA. Sorry but the league has no use for a 5'6" guard that cant shoot. Her best option is to work on her shooting and come back for her final year.

I think it's great that a recruit takes all the time they need to make an important decision which will affect their lives more than lives of those fans who show interest from afar.

For decades, there has been a Fall signing period and a Spring signing period available to student-athletes. Some recruits don't even end up signing an LOI at all. Sabrina Ionescu just showed up at Oregon and enrolled for summer classes once she had made her decision.

A'ja Wilson didn't sign her LOI with South Carolina until Spring of her senior season. There are many more over the years who chose not to rush into a decision until they were ready; hats off to them.

I'm not sure, but that might be old, outdated intel (unless you've seen a recent article)

I will be curious to see between now and March 25 if she makes an official visit to South Carolina as she's never been to that campus before. From posts I have read from SC fans on different message forums, no way would their collectives pay a player from the state of Texas more than they are paying a player from the state of South Carolina like 2024 signee Joyce Edwards. They think any mention of SC still being involved with Chavez is simply for the sake of including the name of the defending national champions.

Depending on when Chavez's Spring Break is (probably this week), there's not much time to make additional out-of-state visits. Will be interesting to see if she chooses to visit OU in a week for their home sub-regional in Norman.

Even though that SI.com article is dated today, the source they reference made that tweet back on February 26.

I was born and raised in Lubbock. One of my oldest friends is a TT BMD. I was just on the Texas Tech campus. She’s picking the Horns.

I’m not gonna be part of letting this issue slide bye. So countdown to Chavez commitment day. SIX DAYS and dropping. A needed diversion upcoming with The Dance starting. However, I’m into full countdown mode. Then…..either delirium……or deep dark depression excessive misery. I vote for delirium.

Thanks..I needed that Hee Haw reference!! 🤘

I'm not gonna be shocked if Chavez doesn't announce on March 25th as planned, but since there is a school assembly scheduled for that day and ESPN Sports Center is gonna air the announcement (think that's how I interpreted that tweet from a few weeks ago) guess the odds are that she will announce her commitment. Not sure if she will also sign an LOI at that time, but guess we'll see.

As for why the 25th was chosen, I have no clue. She will be playing in the McDonald's All-American game on April 1st (in Chicago?). Think the practices and other events start a few days prior to that.

Will be curious to see if she visits any school this weekend. OU, South Carolina, and Texas all hosting sub-regionals. Tech is playing at Wyoming on Thursday in the WBIT; so, no games in Lubbock for Chavez to attend.

With the transfer portal as it is, Chavez could take the best money offer for a year and then become the most sought-after transfer in the portal the next year. I guess maybe it’s good for women’s basketball to have her announcement be such a big event, but it’s not really a long-term commitment any more. I’d love for her choice to be Texas, but if it’s not, I hope she stays home at Tech.

She’s a fantastic player but she could still use some good coaching to elevate her game even more for the next levels and Gerlich ain’t it (by a long shot). She can have a great collegiate career, but it’d be better on any team on her list not named Tech

Congrats to Aaliyah for being named the Gatorade National POY

Something in me is telling me that she is not choosing us. One thing I noticed on social media is that Lovato, TX associate head coach, ALWAYS shares Chavez content on her story. Well, this week, with the big announcement of winning national Gatorade POY, lovato didn’t share of any of her content. Not trying to read into it but I can’t help but to.

Back on March 7, Justin Wells of On3.com had entered his Crystal Ball prediction with 60% confidence for Aaliyah Chavez to sign with Texas.

As of now, On3.com's Recruiting Prediction Machine has Texas with a 90% chance of landing Chavez. Not sure if that is also from Justin Wells, but I'm okay with that percentage!

I am just not as optimistic as others on this forum. My gut just tells me she will probably pick OU for these reasons:

1. Coach Baranzck is a great offensive head coach and their game is all about guard scoring and threes, more suited to Chavez style of play.
2. Norman is closer to Lubbock than Austin, would be easier for her family to attend games.
3. Vic is more of defensive minded coach and his teams just do not have free wheeling scorers or big time three point shooters. We were dead last this year in the SEC on three point scoring.
4. If Rori chooses to play another year, then that complicates things. At OU, Chavez will be the starting PG from day one and will always have the green light to shoot.

Remember Morgan Williams? Williams scored 41 points in the Elite Eight against Baylor in 2017. Mississippi State won 94-85 in OT. The same year, she hit the game winner against UConn to lead Mississippi State to the title game. Also in overtime. See The 15 highest-scoring individual performances in March Madness women's history | NCAA.com. I believe one Blair Shaefer was a somewhat frequent shooter of threes playing for Vic at MSU.

I mean, we as fans watching from the outside can provide many personal opinions why Chavez could/should pick Texas, Tech or OU. That's all fair game.

But, when certain recruiting/sports sites are providing their opinions/predictions based on who they speak with about her recruitment, I certainly don't ignore it. It makes me feel much more confident of our chances to have those sites predicting 60-90% confidence level that she commits to Texas than if they were predicting those numbers for OU or Tech.
