my catch of the week last weekend. suprisingly enough she only took about 10-15min to reel in. fish this size usually put up a good half hour fight. i can only guess someone tried bringing her in earlier that day only to lose her. just outside the jettis(sic) to the gulf near port o'connor goin back for more on sunday evening through tuesday. we've had a LOT of luck recently in this port in the matagorda bay and outside the jettis into the gulf.
not to be a dyck, but i'm wondering why you kept her. i'll add that you are well w/in you legal right to. but bull reds are the suck for eating. worms galore and meat tastes bad. regardless, awesome catch. did you go w/ a guide? where did you catch her? what were you using? did you see her tail or were you blind casting?
Not to be a dick, but isn't it time to retire the LiveStrong bracelet? Just kidding. Very nice catch. That had to be a thrill bringing it in.
Did you catch that fish on bait? If so, a fish that big must make you a master baiter..... I can't believe i typed that
---------------------------------------------------------------------- not to be a dick, but somethings mighty fishy about this thread. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- maybe it's the smell of smegma from everyone being a dyck but not trying to be a dyck.
crash, not that i think you're a dick, but the meat we fileted off that fish was amazing. and i believe it is the drum (pictured below) that have the worms. i released that fish after the catch and picture. that drum was caught in espiritu santos bay in port o'connor. no guide. my pops and i fish out there all the time and we have a few spots we've had some good luck with. caught the fish with live shrimp just outside the jetti's from matagorda bay to the gulf in port o'connor. water was about 56'. it was windy inside the channels and through the jettis as well as choppy water, however the water was relatively calm outside the jetti.
Yeah, it's the black drum, the "Big Uglies" that get the worse spaghetti worms. I've seen them in big specks before as well. Blechh.
They were tailing in 20+ foot deep water? I know the bulls are out there, I've just never heard of them tailing. Not to be a dick or anything, but an 8wt is light tackle.
