today. Crazy. Usually if you look at something like the tourney brackets there is not one single lower seed picked to beat a higher seed (on the poll of america). Yet today- and they said they've gotten a ton of votes, America picks the underdog. All the gameday guys picked Tech. 4 0f 5 CBS. I think ESPN.com is the only outlet picking texas. I just hope this Texas team can get up one more time after the gauntlet we've run so far to take down an unstoppable Tech team. Hope we can stay on the field with them. The experts don't see it.
I think all the people (analysts & TV types, anyway) picking Tech to win are just going for the "sexy" pick. These are the same people that "missed the boat" when Texas beat then #1 Oklahoma. None of these experts want to miss the boat again as far as a #1 going down. As far as fans across the country, I'm sure it's just a case of what they want to happen, not what they think will happen if you actually look at the football matchup.
Dooomed!!!!!! You know if it were up to me, we wouldn't even play the games. The ppl have spoken, DOOMED!
Texas is supposed to win this game so picking Tech is just that, sexy. If Tech wins, which is not a miracle given rankings and numbers tossed around, they are brilliant. See? They nailed it. If Texas wins nobody will say squat about them being wrong. Texas was supposed to win. Texas took care of business, blah, blah, blah. People want upsets and they want Texas to lose for the drama of who is left to unfold. Who gets left out, who loses late? I don't blame the public one bit. It's fun.
Media wants Texas to lose, because they have no new ideas for stories on the Horns. 3 gamedays in 4 weeks will do that.
Groups that might be likely to go with heart here?--> * Obvisouly, Tech fans * Alabama fans * Penn State fans * USC fans * Oklahoma fans * Florida fans * Georgia fans * OSU fans * Hormonal guys (e.g. Holtz and Corso) That is a big % of the country. Above > Texas fans and those who see the world for what it really is.
10 games on neutral field, we wi n most. But...the time, the place, the meaning to TT, all the cirucumstances coming together for this one night, has caused this skewed sentiment. TT avgs. about 35 pts. in our last 5 games--all of whjich we won--so hopefully we win again. Don't forget, also a night game 2 yrs. ago and we're down 21-0 at end of 1st Qtr., Horns won again! Hook em!
If they had to put money on it, I bet the 53% would drop significantly. I think a lot of ppl like to confuse who they want to win, with who they think would win.
Enough with the damn politics! Take it to West Mall. Anyways back to the thread I think the nation voted 61% in favor of Mizzou against us. Worked out well for them.
I think more people than that picked Mizzou to upset us in Austin a couple weeks ago. Public opinion polls like that are useless.
Same people picked OU, Mizzou, and Okie State...Keep picking against the Horns folks, it seems to be working.
this is perfect...I hope everyone keeps doubting this TEXAS team. Their mantra has been respect. It is truly unbelievable that people have not given us the props wee deserve. IF USC or Florida had done what we've done the past 3 weeks, "the experts" would be calling them the greatest teams of all time and how maybe they should play an NFL team. Whatever. We'll just keep rolling along until we end up in Miami. hook 'em
Don't forget Colorado. It looks stupid now, but there were more than a few folks who had us on "upset alert" for the game in Boulder. Tomorrow, picking Tech to beat Texas won't look that stupid... but it will look wrong.
Tech's top ranked passing against the Horns pass defense favors Tech big time. This will be like always a high scoring very little defense game that goes down to wire this year. I can see UT losing this game then having Tech lose to OSU or OU and UT still winning the Big 12. Texas will have to play great on both sides to win and I feel they must get pressure on Harrell and cause several turnovers.
Scenario.... USC is ranked #5 and facing four Top-12 opponents in a row. They begin by defeating the #1 ranked team, say Oregon State (He-he!.. yeah, right). Oregon State has a Heisman candidate soph multi-purpose QB. Then they play and beat a 1-loss Stanford Team previously ranked #5, and also touting a top Heisman candiate at QB. Stanford was just beat a very good undefeated Arizona State team. USC's next opponent. Then they play and beat an undefeated uptart ASU team, ranked #7 with a talented QB and with 57 players from the State of Calif on their roster, and 15 Calif players starting for ASU. Then they go up against an undefeated Cal team that is leading the Pac 10 in passing and total offense, and is undefeated and ranked #7 in the BCS and ALSO starting a senior Quarterback high in Heisman consideration. So tell me... do you think Cal would be favored?? Scenario #2 Do the same for OU Scenario #3 Do the same for LSU It is really weird that even the Texas Longhorns cannot be favored in this game. I think the country just can't stand a winner anymore. Unless it's USC.
