"And so that was just an example of a new Senator, you know, making what is a political vote as opposed to doing what was important for the country"

But now the President denies that political considerations matter to him? Would any but his most devoted followers believe such a claim were he to make it? Leopards and their spots, leopards and their spots.

America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership.

I guess the difference now is that our leadership has quite literally doubled down our debt in 2 short years. It is not so much a failure of leadership as it is leadership in the absolute wrong direction. He's actually proven to be quite efficient and decisive in taking the country to bankruptcy.

there is no leadership when it comes to anything having to do with money...taxes, trade, monetary policy, banking regulations, debt, deficit, etc. The best interest of the president and the members of congress is their job, nothing more. They will do whatever it takes to keep everything afloat to make it to the next election until eventually, the country can't keep up.

There is no leadership because the American electorate cannot be told the truth. Any politician who dares to do so is punished in the voting booth. Walter Mondale tried to tell the truth in 1984 and was soundly defeated, only to see Reagan enact the largest tax-hike in history.

Poor Fritz was dragging around the legacy of a failed presidency that no one wanted to return to.

At least he won his home state which was something Al Gore could not manage.

A bigger sign of failure is working harder on your re-election two years prior to election day then you do working on fixing the problems you inherited or created (your choice).

You do know that those tax increases were part of a compromise? Why don't you go ahead and tell the whole story?

The compromise was for every $1 in tax increases, the House run by Tipper was supposed to cut spending by $3. Guess what? the democrats went back on their compromise. Do yo want to try and rewrite history some more?
