sometimes I know I have seen so much baseball I've forgotten more than I can imagine. Look at this::

    Most wins
    1. 19 - Gideon, Jim (19-2) - 1974
    19 - Swindell, Greg (19-2) - 1985
    3. 18 - Dressendorfer, Kirk (18-2) - 1989
    4. 17 - Arnold, Tony (17-1) - 1981
    17 - Gideon, Jim (17-0) - 1975
    6. 16 - Kieschnick, Brooks (16-4) - 1993
    16 - Creel, Keith (16-1) - 1980
    16 - Simmons, Justin (16-1) - 2002
    9. 15 - Stone, Eric (15-3) - 1988
    15 - Petkovsek, Mark (15-2) - 1987

I saw Swindell, Dressendorfer, Kieschnick, Simmons, Petkovsek, but read about and was just a little too young to have seen Jim Gideon. Somebody tell me about the man who put these unbelievable stats on the board.

I went to high school with Gideon's brother. Now maybe it was just that this brother was 2 or 3 years younger and was tired of getting "beaten" by Jim all his life, but his comment was, " Jim was a good pitcher, but he was aided by the fact that Keith Moreland always had enough RBI's to win the game even if Jim gave up some runs." Maybe you could check Jim's ERA and see if there is any validity to that.

I think Richard Wortham(sp) went undefeated one year.

Thanks Horn 83. Next time I see "little" Gideon I'll tell him Jim just struck him out again.

He was a tall RHP from Bellaire HS. He threw hard and had great location. If he had a weakness, I thought his breaking stuff was "so so". He played on teams that could score, but he was the "ace" - Friday starter. That's says something when Wortham was on the staff.
