You are assuming he has anything to squeeze. Bad move.
I’ll raise you a Prairie View, Lamar and SFA?
You see those in the future or the past?
This is what I saidYes SEC Schedules ridiculous non conf games, absurd... so does KSU and Baylor to some degree)
Funny how you didn’t ask me to enlighten you regarding Lamar, PV or the multiple ridiculous SEC non conference games the toughest conference in the NCAA schedules to ensure 3 guaranteed wins
The SEC is so amazing that have to play 3 scrimmages so they aren’t tired when they play each other. Seems a p**** move to me.
Ok, enlighten me. How is playing PVAMU significantly different from playing UTEP?
And again, what's the point in cupcake measuring. Shouldn't overall SOS be a sufficient measuring stick?
It is different because UTEP is in a different class and would beat Prairie View handily.
The aggy collective borg decided to get out of the shadow of Texas and found a bigger Alabama shadow and thus are fated to never see sunlight.
I opine when someone suggests playing again the aggy collective is triggered and falls into a deep depression contemplating how they can survive being in two shadows at the same time.
Might want to check with OU about how tough KSU was.
Dude you win. Prairie view, Lamar and SFA are equal to FCS schools.
I now see that/ I’ll enlighten you.
FCS teams can only have 63 players on scholarship, while FBS football teams can have 85.
And this is rhetorical- the quality of the 85 are higher than the quality of the 63.
Just an opinion.
Bud go wave towels, claim a Heismsn for the QB after the game and hit the Dixie Chicken after blowing out PV. It’s yet another tradition.
Once I am voted the commissioner, no FBS game will count toward a 6 game minimum.
Why argue with aggy? It's a completely pointless exercise. Just scrape him off the bottom of your shoe (outside, please) and go about your life.
Again, I wasn't asking how FCS and FBS rules/requirements differ. I'm asking how is playing UTEP, an FBS team that routinely loses to FCS schools and has one of the least talented rosters in FBS, significantly different from playing PVAMU? How is beating UTEP 56-3 any more significant than beating PVAMU 63-7? It isn't. There is no pride in defeating UTEP or PVAMU.
Pretty convenient that you choose to avoid overall strength of schedule as a metric.
Good thing you're not commissioner. The only way these small schools can afford to have athletic programs is by playing big money FCS teams early in the year. Much of their athletic budget comes from those paydays. The allowance for 1 FCS game to count provides the incentive for teams to schedule them and ensure their continued viability. But hey, if you want to take a crap on the education opportunity of thousands of kids, have at it.
I think it's common for us to schedule 1 out-of-conference cupcake per year. Not 3.
No, you typically schedule 2 per year.
2021- Louisiana Lafayette and Rice
2022- Louisiana Monroe and UTSA
2023- Wyoming and Rice
2024- UTSA and Colorado State
But go ahead and keep flexing.
U. La. (at Lafayette) is definitely no cupcake, and probably won't be as long as Napier is coaching there. They finished the year ranked #15. Definitely no cupcake.
2022 - yep. an abberation of a scheduling year.
2023 - Wyo.--sometimes pretty good, sometimes not. But not generally a cupcake. A decent program.
2024 - Colo. St - same as Wyo.
Our pattern is recent years is frequently: 1 top notch powerhouse, 1 decent team, and 1 cupcake. That's pretty good balance for non-conference scheduling.
Sorry chief, blue-bloods don't consider the ULALAs, Wyomings, and Colorado States of the world anything besides cupcakes.
We played UAB a few years ago and they were ranked in the top 25. We beat them handily and no one can consider A&M a blue-blood.
This is my point, cupcake measuring is ridiculous. UTEP, ULM, Wyoming, Rice, etc. are all cupcakes. A&M nor UT brag about playing them. If you wanna bag on A&M, so be it. But schedule smack is weak sauce when A&M's SOS is tougher than UT's 66% of the time.
aggy will love this
UT Vice President and Athletics Director Chris Del Conte has been appointed as one of five new members to the College Football Playoff selection committee.
It's all fun and games until the BOMC becomes real
U. of La. is a top 15 team. If you think they are a cupcake, you know very little about football. This year, they would have defeated LSU--traditionally the best team in that State.
Well, it's unlikely he'll ever be in the position of having to recuse himself.
That’s precisely my evil plan, to take away an Aggie beating of a subpar team with the ultimate goal of “ take a crap on the education opportunity of thousands of kids”
This is why o can’t stand Aggies responses to any football disagreement.
Ags always promote a holier than thou response.
As a Christian I can say this without being anti God, the biggest hypocrisy I see comes from my Bible thumping Aggie family and thier friends.
I’m done with you and will honor your namesake -Mr Irrelevant
The Ag’s comment makes no sense as every school I’m aware of has completely separate athletic / academic pools of money. So no, ATM buying a game with a known chump isn’t letting some son of a sharecropper or such go to college.
As I said before, maybe it’s not just the Ags not wanting to play anyone decent OOC. What decent team would want to play them? I can’t see any historically good team slumping down and wasting an OOC game on the Ags.
So, they console themselves by claiming they didn’t want to play anyone decent anyway. Like a loner who claims he didn’t want anyone for his birthday party. Sad.
buuuuuttt what if it happens?
Oh my- conspiracy theory time.
Thank goodness RC took the blame last year- can you imagine if CDC was there?
Unless Trevor Lawrence decides to enter the portal and transfer to Brazos County, I think this discussion is about a fairy tale.
We would've gone APESHIT! No two ways about it!
ATM was never in any contention for the 4th playoff spot last year. They had already played Alabama, and lost by 4 TD's. And it's not like they were playing without some key play or such, as Clemson was against ND in their first game.
ND vs. Alabama was at least something new, not a replay of a game a few months back.
If they can work the schedule right, I would prefer to have only one OOC game against an FBS team. No FCS would be scheduled. The other OOC games whether it's 2 or 3, are against other power 5 teams. I get that the FBS and FCS schools need the big money from playing P5 schools, but having 2, and in the case of the SEC, 3 easy games isn't that great. I personally believe that playing 11 out of 12 games are against other P5 is much better. Each P5 conference has enough creme puffs for some not so tough games, but still better competition. Thoughts?
Rice in Houston is the perfect team for our one cupcake. We will beat them, and it’s good for recruiting the Houston area.
A game versus a Louisiana school in Louisiana may also be good for recruiting. Same with California and Florida.
We often play one really good non-conference team each year. The other two non-conference opponents should be scheduled with recruiting in mind.
Remember that some scheduling will be based on "politics" - help your little brother or cousin, thus CDC will get multiple requests from the Capitol to play UTEP, UTSA, SWT, et al. A&M has fewer demands, but they cannot say "no" to Prairie View - Tarleton, A&I, ETSU aren't wanting to step up there YET.
The relationship between Texas and Rice has been strong for multiple decades. Almost every student at Rice goes on to graduate school, a goodly percentage to Texas. The undercurrent for years was to try to infiltrate Rice's pre med program to direct some of those to UTHSC, but that program is married to Baylor.
The above post is correct in that Rice is in the middle of a huge recruiting base.
You meant to say Texas A&M Kingsville and Texas A&M Commerce.
Old ways die hard. My apologies to the Rasslin' Capital of all colleges - West Texas State.
I can see aggy claiming A&I, East Texas State is a head scratcher.
Didn't they win a National Championship a couple of years back?
