At the risk of putting everyone to sleep, I guess I’ll start the Alabama State thread. The game is Sunday at 2 pm. It is also the annual Teddy Bear toss, so if throwing stuffed animals really hard at D1 athletes excites you, this is your super bowl. Alabama State is 1 & 6 on the season. They just won their first game last night against Samford – that’s the one with an “m” and no “t”, so not the school with the rude coach that doesn’t like physical play. Despite the awful record, Alabama St. may actually be better than conference-mate Southern, as they’ve played mostly a P5 schedule so far. On the other hand, they recently lost to the Krista-monster by 35 points and allowed “budding star” Ashley Chev. to score a whopping 4 pts in that game, tying her career-high for the Red Raiders this season (wow, how’s that transfer working out for you AC? You’re not even the first guard off the bench in the rotation and you are now averaging less than 1/2 of your points, assists and steals/game despite averaging more minutes/game now than you did playing for Texas + your FG% and FT% have gone down dramatically. Maybe you really need a coach who challenges you?). Anyway, I expect a little more of a competitive game this time, but with hopefully the same outcome. I’d personally like to see more of Ndjakalenga. First, I am now able to pronounce her first and last names without hesitation. Second, I think we are really going to need her this season. And apparently, she’s putting in late hours in the gym working on her shot:
Okay, I need help. On page 4 of the game notes, in the column Season By The Numbers, what does the Con. abbreviation mean? Can't be conference since we haven't played any conference games. I thought I'd figure it out by now, but nine games in I still have no clue. Can someone more astute than me, help me out? (I have my fingers crossed that it's not something embarrassingly evident.)
Vic's Presser today. Brings AMO with him. Includes answer to question re: Kyndall's status. All mics work this time - thanks to people on this board!
Oh I think we are about to see the best basketball from these lights. It’s about to be that time of the year where there is no class and they are on campus with just each other and can’t focus onhooping. These last 4 b4 conf play should tell a different story. I think now that Rori is back we are bout to see the scoring of SG and SM ramp up. That will I hope open some things for AMo and Gatson in the paint. I still would like to see big 11 tournament Rori back cause she can score whenever she wants but she puts herself last because she’s the PG and understandably so but I think if she looked for her shot it would open some things up even more because you have to worry about her in every way and then we become the potent scary team that on paper say we supposed to be

Really feel bad for AMO. Her injury looked like it happened when she was pushing up on her leg, rather than from landing. That, in addition to the level of pain she was in, concerns me a lot. This has been a really rough season already.
At the game, not sure what TV showed… left the court unable to put any weight on left leg. Has not returned from the locker room. Hoping for the best
Hoping Amo's injury isn't as serious as it looked. Not meaning to speak gloom and doom, but it's looking more and more like this may end up being "one of those seasons" where things just don't develop as expected.
I was hoping they just knocked knees (which is gawd awful painful) but… I really hate it for AMo if it’s serious
From the sound of everything. Her injury is significant. Might be one of those injuries. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
You could tell from the replay she landed without the balls of her feet in the right position to take her weight. At best it's a bad knee sprain. At worst a serious ligament tear. Sure hoping for the best, but I'm not expecting good news. Damn, we just can't seem to get a break.
Yeah, irritating. Painful presser to watch, the game was one of those "W's" that's actually a loss. Really love Gaston, she's got a big heart.
When Vic says something causes him to question his faith, you KNOW the team already knows the injury is significant. I wish Aaliyah the best in recovery. You can tell she's a great person and well loved by the team and fans.
Wow that presser was hard to watch. I feel really sad for Amo, the team, and Vic. Just when some folks are coming out of their stupor and playing like we knew they could. With no Hunter, no Moore, and no consistent Jones, this season just became very bleak. We need the freshmen to have a stellar season like Rori did last year if we're going to have any chance to have a respectable season.
Well, Gaston, Hadi and Shaylee have all been playing well and getting better. Vic has already used the freshman quite a bit so they have some experience going into B12 play. Sonya will have games where she lights it up and Rori is still a 5’6” badass. Holle is versatile, she can play everything from point to power forward for us if she has to. Hopefully AMo won’t be as bad as we suspect and maybe Taylor will return soon. We may need to back-off on the monster Vic defense though, we absolutely can’t get into foul trouble.
May need to dial it back and commit to locking down in the half-court, like he did in his first season at UT where he had a limited roster.
Our hellion BYU transfer Shaylee needs to dial back the language with the refs and not pick any more techs, we need her on the court. We knew she was going to be trouble…
I only recall the one technical assessed to Shalee for whatever she said to the ref.... don't know what that second one could be.
Man.... This is certainly a season that seems to be whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. With injuries to your best two players/returns. And one those being significant. What looked like a promising year on paper, seems to have been halted before it could even take off. The basketball Gods aren't on our side this year. Hopefully they can finish in the middle of the pack in conference this year.
