Another old Cowboy has passed........

I was working for a community newspaper in Southern Denton County and had a chance to interview Garrison. I found him pleasant and interesting. He told a great story about going with his wife to a nice restaurant. It was after he retired from football by then. As fate would have it, Tom Landry was having dinner and waved him over to the table where he and Alicia were dining. Garrison couldn't think of a way to extricate himself from the meeting and whispered to his wife "this isn't going to be much fun." Turns out he was wrong. They had delightful conversation and camaraderie. As the evening was closing Garrison asked Landry why he had always been distant and impersonal as a coach. Landry explained that as a leader, he purposely avoided having personal relationship cloud his assessment of players' abilities.

Surving 30 bomber missions with crews unscathed overcame longer odds than an NFL team making it to the Super Bowl. No wonder Landry projected such composure during a football game.
