List your classic Austin places that are still around and have been here at least 30 years. It could be restaurant, bar, a bowling alley, a dive, etc. Here are a few off the top of my fat head: Longnhorn Bar (on Burnet) Dry Creek Cafe Shoal Creek Saloon The Tavern Hut's Hoffbrau Cedar Door (on wheels)
Somebody trying to compile a list so that they can go and try to buy the property and tear the place down, or something? Broken Spoke Horseshoe Lounge Cisco's Wooten Barber Shop Dobie Theater County Line BBQ Pit BBQ House Park BBQ Frisco Diner Oat Willie's Threadgill's (Burnet Road) Dot's
Dirty's El Patio El Rancho Ben's Long Branch Sam's BTW, Oat Willie's has been around since at least the early 70's, but it's not the original location. Mars is where Oats used was originally. Loses some points for me.
To summarize so far: Ben's Long Branch Broken Spoke Cedar Door (on wheels) Cisco's County Line BBQ Deep Eddy Cabaret Dirty's Dobie Theater Dot's Dry Creek Cafe El Patio El Rancho Frisco Diner Hoffbrau Horseshoe Lounge House Park BBQ Hut's Hyde Park Grill Longnhorn Bar (on Burnet) Oat Willie's Pit BBQ Sam's Shoal Creek Saloon Sholtz Beer Garden Texas Chili Parlor The Tavern Threadgill's (Burnet Road) Top notch Wooten Barber Shop Keep'm coming.
Dot's isnt' there anymore, is it? Mike's Pub Threadgill's (N. Lamar) Sandy's Bert's (he's rebuilding)
Jaime's, Matt's and El Gallo. I'm not commenting on the food quality of these, but they have stood the test of time.
Furr's Cafeteria on South Lamar. The Continental Club. The Peter Pan miniature golf course on South Lamar and Barton Springs Road. Dart Bowl. Antone's in various forms. That big flea market on 290 East. Rosie's Mexican Restaurant on 71 West. Zachary Scott Theater. The Paramont Theater. The Driskill. The remaining Austin Moonlight Towers. The Chinese Gardens, the train ride and Christmas Tree at Zilker Park. Barton Springs and Deep Eddy Pools, along with several neighborhood pools. The Frank Erwin Center. Scholtz's Beer Garden was mentioned. Dirty's Kumback Place was mentioned. Is Hole in the Wall still there? How about The Caucus Club over by The Capitol? How about either of the Catfish Parlor's on East Ben White or North 183? The McDonald's at Capitol Plaza has been there since the middle sixties. Maybe the Christmas Store at Capitol Plaza? And The Lightbulb Store on North Lamar. Airport Heaven Hamburger's on Airport Blvd. is gone, I believe. Are all those others still there? If so, they've all been around for thirty years or more. The Embassy Suites and The Hyatt on the south side of Town Lake are pushing thirty years and circular tower of The Holiday Inn on I35 overlooking Town Lake is already there.
Burnet has a decent share of those classic places: Frisco Diner Longhorn Saloon Top Notch Poodle Lounge Threadgill’s
Posse East -- yes. And though I love Crown & Anchor, has it really been around long enough to be "classic?" When did it take over from The Beach?
