I am going to be in Austin for a few days around Christmas. My wife and I want to go to a place that is somewhat lively and casual. Mexican food, Southern/Texas, and Barbeque are all good - something like Stubbs/Iron Works, El Arroyo/Trudy's. Pretty much anything is better than the Midwest junk that I am use to.
Amaya's Taco Village, Mighty Fine Hamburgers, and if you want BBQ make the drive to Lockhart and go to Kreuz. Its totally worth it.
Trudy's just doesn't have that great of food, imho and neither does Stubbs. But if the food doesn't matter then both places will be good for your needs. I'll second Franklins BBQ and Amaya's taco village. You could always go to Threadgills for both music and food. Try Guero's Taco Bar on South Congress too.
Cool. THX. A girl mentioned some restaurant called Polvos, but I was too fixated on her body to pay much attention. How/What is it?
