Will be taking some high school students to Austin this summer to tour the Capitol Bldg and UT Campus. I wish I could get them to Lake Travis, but there are time constraints. Aside from Zilker, are there any other scenic park areas near Lady Bird Lake or Lake Austin where I can take them for a picnic?
Take them down to Lakeshore Drive off of Riverside. Over by the youth hostel and the new Amli apartment/condos there are some great views of downtown and it's pretty picturesque. You will be amazed at how up to four or five apartment complexes in that area have been razed to make way for new and taller complexes. There is a 7-11 right there if you need ice or anything last minute. Nearby too (at Pleasant Valley and Riverside is a newly remodeled HEB for other things.
